No longer a Noobie!
Hi All,
Right, Ive FINALLY, taken delivery of my new digital thermometer with probe and thermostat, after weeks of waiting for delivery after problems with the ones I got from a local pet shop.
I have just tested the temperatures at the following points:
Warm End - Under Substrate - 104f
Warm End Top of Substrate - 83.3f
Cool End - Top of Substrate - 68f
Obviously these temperatures are not good enough, and thanks to my new thermostat the warm end will be reduced to a steady 85f. Although the cool end is far too cold, especially if I reduce the heat input, it may well drop further. Its only a small starter tank, about 18 inches long, and the heat mat is about a third of the size of the tank. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
I am aware I need around 85 warm end and 75 cool end. Im also worried that the difference between the substrate (less than an inch of aspen) is too big (20f difference), and when I reduce the heat of the mat, the top of the substrate in the warm end may be too cool.
