The 'Goal' Thread

Snake Dave

Schrödinger's cat
Hey everyone

First and foremost, I'd like to say sorry for not being around recently. I don't know if I've been missed or not, LOL, but I've been weighed down with various forms of work, but I'm hoping to be on a little more frequently now (I'm still super-busy though!)

I don't know if this has been done before, but I thought I'd make a thread where people can place any goals or aspirations that they have, long or short-term, and then they can post if they've achieved those goals, or any others recently. I'll start us off.

Short term:

- Pass my driving test
- Score highly in my Army officer interview (this will be my second, I did well in my first one)
- Get an A in my chemistry test
- Achieve under 9 minutes for my 1.5 mile run (currently at around 10:00).
- 100 press-ups in a single session (currently at 76)

Long term:

- Get into university with at least AAB
- Get into Sandhurst
- Achieve at least the rank of colonel in the British Army

If there are any more I'll post them :)

All the best

David

Wow... goals...

Okay...

  1. Be a good husband and father.
  2. Help my kids be successful and outstanding members of society.
  3. Help all the kids that come to my place of work also be successful and outstanding members of society. Be a good house-parent to them.
  4. Be a good employee; offering only my best.
  5. Be a good snake-keeper & possibly breeder. Learn as much as I can to attain that goal.
  6. Find some way to go back to school - not necessarily to find another job or to make more money (although more money would be good), but for self edification. Maybe even re-learn to play the trumpet or learn (for the first time) how to play a guitar.
I know there probably should be more... but just off the cuff. LOL.

Hmm I guess I only just realised that I actually have goals I am dead set on achieving.

First and foremost is to work through my mental health nursing degree and get qualified! Only 2 more years to go! It's been an absolutly fascinating journey so far and I have learnt so much about myself.

I always aim to improve my photography skills. I have been sending discs away to magazines for months now. I so desperatley want to get published just once :) There may be something in the works, but I won't speak too soon :p

I want to start playing the violin again. I haven't picked up my beloved instrument in 2 years. Laziness and lack of dedication. It's a damn shame since I was playing for 9 years before that. Now I fear I have forgotten everything I knew. I want to have the strength to pick it up one day in the near future...

I have more, but they are slightly trivial.

I'm still working hard on my very selfish and personal goal of becoming a competent horse-rider. Aided and abetted by my wonderful friends. It's meant conquering a deep-seated fear from being bolted with as a horse-mad kid that stopped me riding for over 20 years. So far I've gone from my knees knocking together just being near a pony to competency in handling and leading and walk and trot in the school and out on hacks, through woodland trails and on the road.
I was learning to jump before my back injury, and managed short courses over cavelleti and 2' jumps with and without a saddle, but I'm not allowed to jump now as the risk is too great.
Between the different approaches of my friends, I'm learning both formal 'english' riding style and the Parelli game and western style riding. Also stable and grazing management, I love the farrier visits and playing with the foals, the way the horses greet me when I haven't seen them because of my work schedule.
I'm booking a riding holiday for next year in the south of France, so I have to be ready for 3-4 hour rides and master cantering!

Short term:
1. Get an A on my math test today.
2. Get an A on that English paper I turned in last night.
3. Make a competent writing portfolio for said English class's final.

Long term:
1. Graduate from Daytona State College with at least a B average (A would be preferable, but I'm being realistic here...)
2. Enroll at the University of Florida for their veterinary medicine program.
3. Graduate from there with at least a B average.
4. Open my own veterinary practice.

Great Idea for a Post.
No goal is trivial as long as it is important to you.
1. Be a good father and husband
2. Do the best I can in my work
3. Finish my Viv.
4. Breed some cool Corn Morphs. Hopefully some that Havn't been done yet
5. Be a Better Father and Husband

I posted some unrealistic goals in the DYK thread..

But the two things I know I can achieve are: Move to England/Iceland and get into Oxford.

By the way, I'm faster than you... lol I can do 1.5 miles in 7-ish minutes...

Short term:

Pass my driving test which is in 2 weeks
Get fit and lose a little bit of weight for my wedding (Well ive got 2 years).
Kick the other half up the bum to go get me my new snakie

Long term:
Decide what I want to do with my life
Have a babie
Get lots more corn snakies

*get accepted onto the teacher training course im applying for.
*keep ripping it up at the gym every day lol
*carry on to do some good art work with the kids at the school i am volunteering at
*Get the ball rolling on building a snake rack

*build a snake rack
*MORE SNAKES

*create a good life for us both

3. get back into the shape i was before i broke my neck.
4. keep being in successful in racing.
5. find a awesome girl! lol
6. get another A on my 2nd organic chemistry test tomorrow..
(so that means get off here! ttyl!)

I really like the thunderers goals, not to dismiss anyone elses. Mine would be similair, other than the fact that I'm not a husband or father.
First off I will be be a better person, treat others more fairly, and grow into a more responsible caring person.
Second I will focus more on my artwork, and become a well known artist.
Third I will create a buisness that involves my artistic view, and my love for reptiles.
Fourth I will take my established life and give back to those less fortunate.
And the rest I can number, because I have an endless amount of goals I would like to achieve.
I also put "I WILL", instead "would like to", because I think it gives it more meaning. And if I say I will then it is more of a responsibility, rather than a goal that would be nice to achieve, but not the end of the world if I don't. I love the thread, and great posts from everyone.

Wow! Lots of great goals! I thought about mine for a while, and this is what I've come up with.

Short-term:

-Attain "1st assist" status in the OR (basically the Surgeons "right hand man"... er lady) Right now, I'm a 3rd assist
-keeping up my 4 day a week workout sessions... harder than you'd think!
-get my step son into a private school... only 3 more interviews to go!
-buy a new house (hopefully starting the closing process on one soon!)
-Get a new tattoo; I've been dealing with "the itch" for some time now

Long term:
-Attain my Masters degree in Nursing to become a Nurse Practitioner
-Move out of Arizona
-Have a kid, or 2 or 3 :p
-Find a house with a lot of land to start my own Arabian breeding farm
-Open a Mustang sanctuary to ensure the Spanish Mustang will never be lost!
-Travel the world!!!!

Shortterm:
Get an A in Animal Phys
Get an A in Invert Zo
Get an A in Creative Writing
Get lead position on intertidal Chiton research

Long Term:
Graduate with my two science degrees
Raise my snakes to healthy big adults
Travel and do international zoological research
Open reptile/mammal rescue
Eventually: open my own pet store with only rescued animals.

This has been an interesting thread to read. And a big HEY DAVE! :wavey: I've missed seeing you around here!

I've had a relapse in my illness, so the only two goals I can think of right this minute are:

Short term: get through tonight.

Long term: get through tomorrow.

:awcrap:

Oh no! Lori I hope you feel better soon, you've got a PM coming your way.

Great goals everyone.

Oh and SR1234, sure you can run it in a faster time than me, but can you bench press 100kg and do 76 press-ups in a row? :grin01:

My interview went really well, so she (the lieutenant colonel who interviewed me) was happy to sponsor me and arrange some AOSB (Army Officer Selection Board) briefing dates. :) I'm awaiting a letter with a list of the available dates, and I'll also be visiting a few regiments. :)

Well, I've finished my first set of Math and English course with A's! New short term:
1. Finish Psychology with an A
2. Get down to student advisor to plan next semester...
