The media is telling me I am going to die of swine flue.

Another example of Mother Nature taking care of herself. There is an infestation of humans on this planet. :shrugs:

LOL..kind of. I just said to someone at work last night. This and global warming are god's ways of telling us we "screwed" up.

Until your the one Mother Nature wants to "take care of"!.
Really? You're not putting words in my mouth are you? It doesn't bother me one bit. When it's my time to go it's my time to go. I have very little control over that.

he whole swine flu thing is overrated. It is really just some gov't thing they bow out of porportion. We need to concentrate on helping people that need it like the people in Darfur

There are thousands in the US who could use the money...

Actually it is a major real concern. I think a few here haven't really read or listened to the media reports on this. Just kinda glossed over it.
Most people that have Died from it are in their prime health and are young, not the the real young or the elderly.

Its hitting past Flu Season, typically the flu is spread during the winter months due to the way viruses are transferred. I think this is the main reason why the CDC is kinda spooked. If they are spooked, we should listen. They typically do not jump the gun and its better to be safe than sorry.

If it does hit the US with the falling of jobs and people with Health Care, it may be spread around that much faster due to people thinking its just a spring cold or a simple bug and not going to the doctor.

The way our society is now, a pandemic can hit this planet pretty hard. When they are warning people not to travel from Europe to the Americas, again, there is something to it and its not all Media hype.

I believe at this time they believe that 28 people are infected in NY. How many of those 28 people talked to others and shook hands or given hugs?

I'm in CT, as of right now they have 2 possible (unconfirmed due to waiting for test results) cases here in my state. I'm hoping it's an over-reaction to allergies or something equally innocuous.

Thank you for the link.

Your'e right....they only said 28 people yesterday morning, by the evening, it had gone up to 40 people sick in the US. They said it doubled...most of them were high school aged kids.

I agree..if this thing is infecting and killing the young and strong, in the warmer months, and so quickly...this could be very serious. Not to mention our crappy economy cannot handle that much sickness at once (cost of vaccines, hospitalization, etc).

Exactly. I was just saying this the other day, and my mother said something similar to quote below:

More to agree on here. If it is my time, its my time. Bring it on.

If the earth were infested by any other species the way it is infested by humans, we’d be doing something about it.

I would rep you if I could Wade, but apparently I must spread more around first...we should just let nature take its course. And if her course is taking me out of the picture by giving me the swine flu, I'm okay with that.

Just make sure you both put "do not resuscitate" on all your medical forms, otherwise a doctor will try to save you (so that they don't get sued).

Also...chew carefully! Nature can also take it's course when choking on food..and the DNR will make it hard to come back from that :-\

I for one actually have to agree with drizz with the exception I don't wanna die and I want my kids to be safe:( However, these pandemics are definitely mother natures way of cleaning house so to speak and with no vaccine or reliable treatment its scary to see this virus spreading so quickly. Has anyone figured out why Mexico is the only country with reported deaths? What are other countries doing differently I wonder? From what I have read it doesn't look like this is just going to blow over- theres no way to quarantine or prevent transmission and people are contagious BEFORE they begin to exhibit symptoms which makes avoiding this virus nearly impossible. Sad stuff honestly:(

I work in a hospital lab and I can tell you that the medical field is taking this seriously. Should the public panic? No. Should we be concerned? Yes. There is no quick lab test for this strain of the flu because it hasn't been seen before. We are already seeing dr's ordering flu tests for their patients, but the results may not be accurate. Is it treatable? Mostly. There will be deaths and it's going to continue to spread. It will be controlled once we know more about it.

From msn

The toll from the swine flu epidemic appears to be stabilizing in Mexico, the health secretary said late Tuesday, with only seven more suspected deaths. But an outbreak of the virus at a New York school showed it is capable of repeated jumps between humans — meaning it can keep spreading around the world.

The new virus is suspected in 159 deaths and 2,498 illnesses across Mexico, said Health Secretary Jose Cordova, who called the death toll "more or less stable" even as hospitals are swamped with people who think they have swine flu. And he said only 1,311 suspected swine flu patients remain hospitalized, a sign that treatment works for people who get medical care quickly.

Well, there has now been 2 confirmed deaths from the flu. I believe in california. Just everyone be careful and safe. I don't want any of our community here to get sick.
