Nice set-up! I just packed away my visionariums and chose to go the tub route. Are you using eco-earth? Does it get stuck in the glass door rails?

Yea, I went with the eco earth because I think it's got a very appealling look and holds moisture well (almost too well at first) and i don't have a problem with it because i keep a small hand vac next to my cages and just suck out the runners from time to time. It's kind of a pain and I had to move my geckos out of them because they dug too much and there was always sand in the rails, but the snakes are better behaved and I don't have to worry about it too much. :)

Ooo, very nice!!

I've thought about getting the visionarium, but I was wondering if you can use a UTH with a thermostat on em since its not a glass bottom?

I use UTHs but I have dimmers on them so they don't get too hot. I had troubles with them at first because they were getting too hot and the bottoms were dipping a little bit but now I have it under control and I love them. They're great display cages and I like to be able to see my snakes and enjoy them (at least for the moment but I'm sure I'll be moving to racks sooner or later).

LOL I just realized Roxy is hiding in the corner of her cage when I was taking the picture. :grin01:

this might be a dumb question, but how do you use dimmers on UTHs? :shrugs: i am (hopefully) getting a visionarium soon, and i was wondering where to get dimmers and how to use them with a UTH? thanks! :wavey:

Set them up just like a light fixture, its the same as a thermostat basically and it just controls how much power is going to the UTH. It's pretty easy and you can just go to a hardware store to get what you need.

That's the same setup i used to make mine. It's really simple and that walkthrough is very thorough I'm sure you'll do it just fine :)

Just a word on UTh and dimmers. I coudn't figure out why my boa stopped using his warm hide. My corn that is underneath in another tank kept going over to that side of his take to get the throw off heat coming from the boa's. So I got a temp reader and checked how much heat that pad was putting off over 120 degrees!!!! No wonder the boa stayed away. I went to Lowe's (everyone else on boards like these says go to Wal-mart, but I check three of them and none had a dimmer which you could just plug something into, they were all that needed wired in) Lowe's had it for $15.00. All you do is to plug it in and plug the pad into it. Then you need to adjust the switch until you find the temp you want coming from the pad. Now the boa seems much happer and the corn actually does something instead of lying in that one spot of it's take, lol. (And before anyone asks, yes I check the temp of the corn's tank as well and just because he was trying to suck up the heat from the other cage doesn't mean that he doesn't have enough heat of his own. :crazy02:
