Well after a 62 day incubation the opals and lavenders are hatching out! So far I have 3 opals, 3 possible lavenders (I'm having a lot of trouble telling the difference b/w a lavender and a normal), and one amel. I'm really excited.
Here's the problem though. The genetics simply say this isn't possible! I bred an anery het opal to a normal het opal...so I should have had a 1/16 chance of getting an opal, yet out of 12 eggs I have 3 opals and 3 possible lavenders, and no normals??? I don't understand this at all, but I'm not complaining
. I even began to doubt I was actually looking at opals but I searched the forums for some opal hatchling pics and sure enough that is what I have!! AND, to make it even better, I hatched out twins in this clutch! An opal twin and a lavender/normal thing twin. How cool is that!! The other eggs have pipped but aren't sticking enough of their heads out to really see what is going on.
So here's the question, could someone post some hatchling lavender pics, possibly next to a normal so I can figure out which is which? I got one that is definitely a lavender b/c he is a lot lighter then the others and has those cool purplish eyes. The other 2 are questionable. They don't really look like normals b/c they are so light but I see segments of the dark red behind their saddles (like you see in a normal corn), but it is very very faint. And also, how in the world did I get such good luck hatching out 3 opals so far??
Pics soon to come. Gotta get batteries for the digital cam and I'll gladly post them, b/c these little guys are just stunning!!
