Well after a 62 day incubation the opals and lavenders are hatching out! So far I have 3 opals, 3 possible lavenders (I'm having a lot of trouble telling the difference b/w a lavender and a normal), and one amel. I'm really excited.

Here's the problem though. The genetics simply say this isn't possible! I bred an anery het opal to a normal het opal...so I should have had a 1/16 chance of getting an opal, yet out of 12 eggs I have 3 opals and 3 possible lavenders, and no normals??? I don't understand this at all, but I'm not complaining :) . I even began to doubt I was actually looking at opals but I searched the forums for some opal hatchling pics and sure enough that is what I have!! AND, to make it even better, I hatched out twins in this clutch! An opal twin and a lavender/normal thing twin. How cool is that!! The other eggs have pipped but aren't sticking enough of their heads out to really see what is going on.

So here's the question, could someone post some hatchling lavender pics, possibly next to a normal so I can figure out which is which? I got one that is definitely a lavender b/c he is a lot lighter then the others and has those cool purplish eyes. The other 2 are questionable. They don't really look like normals b/c they are so light but I see segments of the dark red behind their saddles (like you see in a normal corn), but it is very very faint. And also, how in the world did I get such good luck hatching out 3 opals so far??

Pics soon to come. Gotta get batteries for the digital cam and I'll gladly post them, b/c these little guys are just stunning!!

It is amazing what comes out of those eggs. Last year I had only 6 eggs hatch and 5 different morphs normal(mom) Amel(dad),amel motley, amel stripe motley, normal motley. And my eggs are hatching at this time also and one of them looks like a Anery stripe motley. So possibly another het.

Congrats on the hatchlings~

Can't wait to see the little ones crawling out~

Khaman,
your photo is really cute. Looks like that they're hugging each other~

Looking at the photo makes me wonder if that is really a normal or not the head color looks a little off. Maybe after a shead I can go back and look again. :shrugs:

here's the pics

The more I look at these guys the more I can't tell what is going on with them. I'm getting so confused I don't even know if these are opals or lavenders. I see some people's opals that look similar to mine, and I see some that are totally different. The same goes for the lavenders. I got the adult breeders from Rich last year so the genotypes are certainly correct...anery male het opal, normal female (looks really miamilike to me) het opal. So I couldn't get any snows out of this clutch, right? I'm kind of wondering if my opals are snows sometimes. And I thought telling what these hatchlings were was going to be a piece of cake. Yeah right :shrugs:

Anyways here they are. PIC one is the opal? , PIC two is the lavender?, PIC three is the normal? . Can ya tell I'm confused yet? Sorry for the crappy quality...I took these this morning, and if anybody has seen many of my picture posts you know I am a HORRIBLE photographer.

Oh yeah, I will say one quick thing about the opal? baby. You can literally see her organs inside of her! It is the neatest thing! When she hatched I saw her heart, several large blood vessels, her digestive tract, and a small green organ I am assuming is her stomach or gallbladder or something.

Sorry I just wanted to share that little tidbit. I have never seen anything like that before. Maybe that helps on IDing the snake??

Bye
