The World is Missing it's Greatest Drummer

I wasn't familiar with Avenged Sevenfold, but if that music video is any indication at all, this is a great loss. Dunno if Jimmy Sullivan is the greatest drummer EVER but he certainly has the chops to be right up there with the drumming gods and now we won't get to hear what he would have done next. So sad.

Alright, well he was the greatest drummer to me at least :p The world truly is missing out.

A few news sites are reporting the same thing:

"On the heels of actress Brittany Murphy's death, rocker drummer Jimmy Sullivan was found dead at his Huntington Beach home at 28 - The cause of death a mystery.Huntington Beach police confirmed Jimmy Sullivan (also known as “The Rev”) of Avenged Sevenfold (A7X) was found dead on December 28 in his home.
According to sources, Lt. John Domingo told The Orange County Register Sullivan appeared to have died of natural causes "despite his well-documented penchant for cocaine and other drugs".
The cause of his death is still declared an unknown mystery but an autopsy by the Orange County Coroner’s Office is scheduled in hopes to find more answers behind Sullivan's sudden and shocking death."

Thanks a lot, Nanci. It's stupid, but I'm still sitting here waiting for it to all be a joke...some elaborate ploy to get press and sell more albums. I'd so be ok with that.

-sniff- I just want to know what happened. Some closure. :[ Found this quote today...so true, so true.

"Varied as Avenged's attack was," Greg Burk wrote for the Times of the group's 2007 performance at the Wiltern Theatre, "its cohesion would have been hard to imagine without the punishing three-kick-drum pummel of the Rev, who could make a juggernaut out of a nursery rhyme."

Some more information:

Huntington Beach – An autopsy Tuesday on Avenged Sevenfold drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan was inconclusive as to the cause of the 28-year-old musician’s death. The Orange County coroner’s office ordered “toxicology, microscopic and laboratory tests” to help determine why Sullivan died, according to Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s-Coroner’s office. It’s likely to take about weeks to get the results of those tests, officials said.

Also, I was talking to my mom about this, and apparently this is exactly the way my cousin died. My aunt found him dead in his home and police cited "natural causes." He had done drugs and alcohol extensively as a younger man, but had been clean for years. My mom said that with that kind of history, even taking a simple pain reliever can cause significant problems -- even death. .___. Oh, JimJam... this isn't fair.

Thanks for posting that. Yeah my mom was saying that even if he was clean now, the effects to his body would be awful. It's just so sad and disgusting. It's like punishing a man who decided to turn his life around...when plenty of people will continue using drugs all their lives and live a long time.

Jimmy was a freaking inspiration, and he should still be here.

R.I.P Rev you were truly amazing behind the kit.

I remember seeing avenged when they came to Ireland after the city of evil album and the gig to date is still in my top five concerts iv attended.

you will be missed and another devastating blow to the metal community.

Hopefully your jamming with Dimebag, randy rhoads, dave williams and layne staley.

I had the opportunity to see them headline the taste of chaos tour a couple years ago and still to this day I am amazed by his talent on the drums. Triple kick-drum just isn't something you see every day, let alone someone who can play them like he did. Sad times for rock music.

I'm so glad to see all this support. I really hope he knows how much everyone cares. I can't wait to tell the rest of the band about this when I see them next.

Just an update for any who care:

Jimmy Sullivan was laid to rest today. Papa Gates said it was a beautiful service. Wish I could have been there. JimJam...gone, but not forgotten.

I wish I could have been there as well. I will make sure I'm able to visit his grave one day to pay my respects and get a little closure for myself.
