Ok, so I know I just recently built a new rack... but I'm fickle and dont like it and it's kinda rickety :eek1:

Anywhoo... in a few months I plan to purchase 4 of these:

(2 of which will have the large bins and 2 will have the small ones)

When I do that I want to purchase a Thermostat as well, I currently have homemade rheostats which really do work great, I'm just tired of turning them up and down all the darn time.

So I was thinking I would get this thermostat http://spyderrobotics.com/products/herpstatpro.html

Please let me know if you think that this will be overkill to regulate the racks above that I am getting. I was thinking this one because it can operate 4 seperate systems, am I good with thinking this is what I need, or am I getting a little too Tim the Toolman about it and getting something more powerful with more doo dad's than I really need.

Any experienced input would be greatly appreciated.
 
Personally, I'd go with 4 good thermostats instead of one. There are more options that way, say, if you want to move a rack into another room. Or even just less/shorter cords around if the racks are on different walls or across the room from each other. Also, if something happens, I'd rather not chance loosing heat regulation for ALL the racks at once.

Tessa and Kieran both have the single Herpstat NDs. Like them well enough to buy the Herpstat dual one for Don Dorcha and Gailleann. I'm a satisifed buyer. I consider them worth the money.
 
Hah, I cant offer much advice on the herpstat but i also just built a 6 adult rack a few months back, and i feel i did a pretty crappy job but will prolly improve on the design and make all the ones i need. imo, buying them is too expensive when i have a woodworking shop here at home.

what i use to control temps is a digital thermometer with a probe and a 300watt light dimmer. like you said, it works very well but its a pain to constantly have to check it and adjust it, but im just THAT broke :)

i know there are really cheap ones you can buy per rack, for like $25-30 but i dunno how reliable they are. was thinking about getting one for a test run before making up my mind.

They were a big chunk out of my budget, but I still feel they were worth it. I"ll be getting another one or two this summer when I add to my small collection.

I have been using the Herpstat Pro for about 4 months now and it works great. I'm going to be purchasing another one sometime this year. I have two of my racks on one of these units. I put one probe on the lower tubs and one on the upper tubs for each rack and so far it has worked great. Here's a pic of mine in action.

Note: probe 2 & 4 are set a little higher because they're at the bottom of the rack and under the aspen chip.

Nice Vin, I think one of these will be my best option, It's good to hear from someone who has one. :cheers:
 
We used to run Helix units and have since switched. We run several Herpstat IIs and have been pleased with them from the beginning. Had the Pro series been out when we bought our last unit, we would have purchased one.
