They call him Elvis, but he's really Houdini

As I've mentioned before my daughter works for Petco, and has been finally been introduced to Elvis the corn snake, well thats what they named him, but he should really be called Houdini. He is the resident escape artist. No matter how many locks they put on, or how much they weigh down his cover he seems to find his way out, but the funny thing is he always comes back. As soon as feeding day comes around or as soon as he gets hungry he appears, just like magic, then 48 hrs after he has a good meal, poof, he's gone awol again. They are so afraid they will never get him a home, because every time he gets out, then comes back, he has to go back into the quarintene room. So he is now the biggest snake in the store. I would love to take him, but i am out of room, My daughter says he is bigger then my gracie and she is a yearling of 16mos. old. Elvis is a healthy snake and is a sweetheart, and a good eater. So if anyone lives on long island or in the five burrows he is at the lake grove Petco.

This may seem obvious but maybe the tank has a hole somewhere? I know some pet stores use cracked aquariums to house reptiles.

The reptile manager thought of that at the second escape, so they gave him a brand new tank. he lives alone so he has no other friend to help him. He still disappeared again, only to reappear a week later. They keep the store warm because of all the small birds and reptiles so he seems not to be stressed, he just hates being confined, I persoally think the problem is there is someone who is cleaning him who is not securing one of the clip locks on the cover. It is comming to the point that there will only be one or two people who will be allowed to feed or clean him. My daughters manager has already asked her to beg me to buy him. Like i said i would love to have him but i am out of pet space in my small house. I already have, 2 dogs, 3 cats, 1 parrot, 1 corn snake, 1 ball python, 12 chickens, and a muscovy duck. and the farm is closed for right now.

Its not me who closed the farm, its hubby, he said enough is enough . We only have a small 4 room house and the biggest room is 11 x 12 and that is the living room. It was fine during the 1940s when it was built but with all the modern stuff we all own its just a little small for much more. I'll keep working on him . maybe if we just brought him home, but it would really hurt to bring him back, so i rather be up front about it.

"It is better to ask for forgiveness than permission"!

I have yet to be commanded to return a pet! I get reprimanded, he pretends he is mad at me, but after a few hours we are good.

I know what you mean when he gets mad at me i get the silent treatment. He will not yell and scream , but will give me what i call the look, and walk around muttering about i never signed up to live in a zoo, if i wanted to live in a zoo i'd move to the sarenggetti. Maybe i should give you and the whole managery a one way ticket. I smile, my daughter laughs, he grumbles and tells her, and you can go with her, bachelorhood never looked so good. This goes on for a week till he accepts the inevitable and gives in. I will wait till after the holidays and try again.

You never know. I wanted to give my twins a kitten for their birthday, and my boyfriend said no, it wouldn't be a good idea. He grumbled about it all the way to go pick her up. When he saw that she was all grey he even complained that I picked them an ugly one. A week later, he was so jealous, we all went with him to pick out a kitten of his own! Now, I got the boys a snake for Christmas, and he grumbles about her too, calling her boring, and nothing but a glorified worm, but I have caught him sneaking glances at the viv, and the other night he asked me when he could hold her. I think it's cute the way he tries to resist. The little grey kitten he once called ugly sleeps next to his face at night purring up a storm, and he calls her beautiful every day. ;)
