I went to a local pet store today only because I had to get a live pinky to try to get my non feeder eating. I can't stand going into this particular store because it smells horrible and they treat their animals awful. I took this pic because it looks like this python was dead. I was going to tell the woman working, but she was so rude to me I just decided to forget it and hope that my baby starts eating F/T after this time.
I asked her if she knew if there might possibly be more babies in a week if this works and my snake eats it. She said they have babies when they have them. And I said that I just meant I wondered if they had more than one breeding pair but she wouldn't answer me. An old crabby woman who needs to work somewhere else where she doesn't deal with people apparently.
This place needs to be shut down!

He seems nice and plump, has a hide, and his bedding seems reasonably clean. In that, he is 1000 times better off than the shop near us. lol Was he moving, or just laying there? Maybe he has some stuck shed or something.

This is not a position you'll likely to find a healthy ball python in...
Might even be IDB...

Generally speaking, I prefer buying from petshops that do not have animals... save for a few fish maybe...

Plump....more like bloated....I'd call animal reg, USDA or whatever place regulates the petstores in your area to complain and keep the photo as documentation......

Oh my goodness! That doesn't look good at all! It breaks my heart. Poor little thing. :(
Did you try the live pinkie for your baby yet? Let me know if it helps. None of the pet shops near me sell live pinkies, but my boyfriend's boss breeds them for his lizards, so my boyfriend is going to ask him today if he'd be willing to sell me one. Maybe you could find a local reptile breeder that breeds their own mice too. I feel bad for you to even have to go in that pet shop again. Good luck!

She refused the live pinkie too. So I fed it to my box turtle and since I'm such an animal lover I felt awful. I ran upstairs as soon as I put the pinkie in there cause no way could I watch that without feeling like a killer :'(
I took her to the vet prior to the pinkie and he's the one that gave me the carnivore care food and tube and showed me how to tube feed her. He also took a look at my other snake that has a mouth that doesn't completely close. Which turns out is a birth defect.
The vet call was supposed to be $35 but he only charged me $22 for looking at both and for showing how to tube feed plus the food and tube and two syringes. He was awesome and I was so thrilled that I sent him a thank you note to express my gratitude. He totally could've charged a lot more.
Hope yours eats soon. I'm hoping if I stop tube feeding for a few days and now have the temps up higher she will eat for me. I'll try a boiled pinkie.

You can use a pinky pump and use f/t pinkies in that.....however, many babies can go a pretty long time without eating. Try too often and you'll create a chronic refusal due to stress. If it won't eat, try again in a week....

I've had hatchlings go over 3 months and still get going and survive...they usually catch up pretty fast once they start eating well. I've never tubed a snake yet.....or force fed. The only exception was an adult that was not eating for a while......or sick adults that needed to get started eating again. Babies never. Out of the hundreds of corns I bred out only 3 never ate.

Ok. I'll wait a few days and try another pinkie. When do you use a pinkie pump? She's only ever eaten once and that was a pinkie head on the day before Thanksgiving and was born Sept. 9th.

I would use it if it had gone months but like I said, I don't force feed babies....either they learn to eat or they don't.....I don't like perpetuating poor feeders into a gene pool. I don't normally try days after not accepting feed...I wait at least a week, sometimes longer. What is this baby housed in? Generally I keep hatchling corns in small deli cups or glad disposable sandwhich plastics. I use paper for substrate and a small hide and small water and feed in the cup. I keep the babies in a rack so they have further cover to help them feel secure. Have you tried just putting the hot f/t pinky in the tub and leaving it overnight? If the hatchling is really small, cut the legs off first and crush the skull of the pinky so that it's easier for them to eat. If you're able to tube it there's no reason to use a pinky pump. If you feel like getting one though I think Kathy Love has some for sale on her site.

She was in a Rubbermaid container but I just moved her to a 5 gallon viv a few days ago. She's much more active now and is usually wrapped up in her new vine. I may try feeding Saturday or Sunday. I've put her overnight in a deli cup with both f/t and a live pinky.

Personally I'd leave her in a very small container for a while until you establish feeding regularly and then move her to a regular rubbermaid shoebox.
