Thoughts of a 5yr old

I thought this was cute so decided to share. I bought our R.O. Spotty for my five year old son, Jacob, and Spotty's viv is in his room. This morning Jacob came in to wake me up (way too early) to tell me Spotty was out of his hide (which never happens) because he wanted to look out for Jacob while Jacob was sleeping. So I got up to go look because like I said seeing Spotty outside of his hide just does not happen and sure enough he was out looking around facing the front of his tank. My son said "See, he was watching over me while I was sleeping to make sure I was safe." Too cute. By the way feeding day is tomorrow so I am assuming he was out because he is getting hungry. Even so he has never done that (that we have seen). It did not even seem to bother him that we were looking at him. Maybe he is finally getting used to being here.

Awww that is so cute. I miss that age. Mine are 7 and 10 now. I have a big rodent room and I remember one time walking by only to hear two little voices "age 3 & 6" giggle and saying -tag you it- over and over. Well, the gerbils where doing their courting and the kids thought they where playing tag. how fast gerbils move and all.. anyway maybe not the sweetest story of children and pets but it sure goes to show how wonderful innocents really is :)

I have a 5 & 12 year old. When the 12 year old was little and now with the 5 year old (since he was 3), they would pick rats out of litters and name them and make them pets. I always tried to guide them to females so I could make them another breeder, but usually I would end up with them picking a male that I had to keep since it was a "pet". My son always carries them around in a small cage around the yard playing with them. Fun to watch, I dread the time when he will not even want to go to the snake building or rodent building with his "dorky old dad".
