Gig 'Em Ags!! Whoop!!
Well today my lil bro and I decided to go out to this little sand praire and look for some bull snakes and some garters, and we got lucky. No bulls today, but we found these two beautiful eastern garters. My brother decided to keep the big female and after we got it home I took a closer look and the bottom half of her looks pretty swollen, so I'm thinking she might be gravid. I think he let it go already, and I hope (if it is gravid) that was didn't stress her out too much. :(

The second little guy we found was deep in blue and a little skiddish, but overall a relatively pretty juvenile eastern.

Anyways...enjoy the pics.

That's a Garter for ya! Maybe those of us who grew up with Garters can stand the more muskier snakes now.

BTW Prud, I saw my first copperhead in about 5-7 years today. I took my son fishing at a reservoir in James City County, Virginia. I stopped by the office to buy some worms and the man there told me to stay on the pier and be careful of copperheads as many have been seen next to the water's edge. Never one to do what I'm told, I decided to go poking around a promising looking wooded area near the fishing pier. I didn't take ten steps before I saw a copper at the base of a tiny oak tree. In fact, I wouldn't have seen him at all but he moved and the sound in the dry leaves drew my attention. It was about 2.5 feet long.

First Copper in half a decade and I didn't have my camera

well congrats on the find man thats awesome. Sorry to hear you didn't have you camera with you though. :( My bro and I are planning on taking a trip to SE Iowa in about 3 weeks and I cant wait to see what we find down there. There's supposed to be some northern coppers and some massassaguas so im hoping we find a couple of both. Oh there are soem crotalus horridus there too :D I'm pumped!!!
