hi guyz, reptile shop told me to try my corn with two pinkies because she struggled with a fuzzie. Although the pinkies were the same size as the fuzzie she could manage them much better.Took her about ten minutes to eat fuzzie and that is what the shop I got her from said she was eating . so should I keep with the pinkies and if so for how long. opinions please.
 
My snakes take around ten minutes to eat properly sized prey, so the fuzzy just might be the right size on the upper end of the scale.

But, keep going with pinks until they don't leave any bulge in her belly.
 
hi, just ha a look at the feeding table and by it sasha should be on regular sized fuzzies. sasha weights 56.6g's. but i think I'll keep with the double pinkies for a month or if she puts on enough weight.
 
after she ate the two pinkies you could see sasha's belly bulge, she still seems a little bit bulgy today, but might just be me seeing what's not really there . didn't handle her today either.
 
When you move up a food size, it will take them a lot longer to swallow the next size up to start with. Ten minutes is fine and not an indication of a problem. Patience is the key.
 
Having the snake take ten minutes to eat the fuzzy is fine. If it only took that amount of time then that is the size it should be fed. It might even want two very soon. I've seen black rat snakes in our back yard take an hour and a half to swallow a squirrel. The important thing is that the snake wants to grow and the more it eats the faster it happens. A pinkie or two every week isn't enough for that to happen.

You need to beware of over-feeding though. Corns spend most of their time hunting in the wild. That's not because they "want to grow", it's because they'll starve if they don't eat and they don't find food every time they hunt.

In captivity we guarantee their food supply - just because a snake appears that it wants to eat more, doesn't mean that it ought to. Slow and steady feeding will have it grow at a healthy rate. Two pinkies or one fuzzy will be fine for this little chap for a few feeds yet.
 
ok thanks guyz.She does seem to be growing fine. once a week I was told by the shop were I bought her , so I feed her at moment every monday night.
 
In my opinion, your snake is way too big for double pinks, if that weight is correct. I move them to fuzzies at 30 grams, and hoppers at 50 grams.
 
ok. the reptile shop were I get her food from said I could bring her in for them to see and they will then tell me what to feed for. I only have a kitchen scales to weigh her and that said 2 oz which equals 56.6 g's.
 
Make sure you aren't moving her around after feeding. If you take her to the shop, wait three days after you fed her, and don't feed her at the shop and then bring her home.
 
no I just want them to look at her won't be feeding her there. she only get fed in her feeding bucket.
 
I think Nanci means don't take her to the shop immediately after YOU feed her. Make sure she has 2-3 days to digest her last meal before you take her in, otherwise she mught regurge.
 
no not at moment . well they are happy to help but no not just relying on the shop. I have read alot of stuff on the net and plenty of advice from you guyz on here.
