Two Quick Turtle Questions?

Penman6668

Dr. Jan Itor
1: How long can turtles be out of the water? I had mine outback in the yard and was wondering if they would be ok for awhile without water?

2: Do turtles have ears and can they hear?

I have several Red Eared Sliders and a terrapin.

Yes they have ears and have keen hearing. Try sneaking up on one. The ears look like a smooth round circle right where you'd expect an ear to be. Completely covered over with skin- no hole.

Water turtles can be out of the water indefinitely, as long as they have access to a water pan big enough to get into. But if you're just taking them out and messing around with them, an hour or two isn't going to hurt anything.

If you would have read the previous answer, you would have figured out why I asked.

But that doesn't necessarily mean they have ears. Like my rough skinned newt, it doesn't really have very rough skin, just looks like it.
