Two Random Questions - Growth and Ghost

I couldn't decide whether to post this in the general chit-chat or miscellaneous, but hopefully its ok to put this in the misc. Also, I didn't want to make two separate threads so thought I'd ask both questions here to conserve "space" I guess :)

So, Question 1 (I posted this on my picture thread too, but figure I'll get more traffic here :)): Does anyone know how much their baby/babies grew per week? I'm mainly just really curious.

The reason I ask is because my little girl has been growing about an inch per week. She was about 11 inches when I got her 7 1/2 weeks ago, and now she's at 18 inches. I ask because I thought she's growing extremely fast, but I've never had a snake before so have no "reference point." My friend (who had a corn snake for only a year :awcrap:) says she's growing slowly, so I don't know. I know each snake is different, and I know I'm feeding her right, so I'm not concerned at all, just more of generally curious about other snake owners experiences with growth.

And now Question 2: What makes a ghost corn? Again, just generally curious :p Ghost is also Anery B, right? So would a ghost corn just come from Normal X Anery A? I only ask because I have one so just am wondering about it for no particular reason. I know there's a lot to genetics, but I guess I'm really just looking for a general list of possibilities.

Ok, thanks for any responses :D Hopefully this will satisfy some of my curiousity haha

Individual snakes grow at different rates. I've had snakes grow very fast and some grow very slow. As long as it is not too fat or too thin I wouldn't be worried.

A ghost corn is a combination of Anery (A) and Hypo. But you won't get one by just mating an anery to a hypo...that would just give a bunch of normals. Both parents would need to have both anery and hypo in some form (either recessive visual or heterozygous/het) in order to hatch ghost offspring. So ghost x ghost, or ghost x anery het hypo, or ghost x hypo het anery, or anery het hypo x hypo het anery, or normal het hypo anery x ghost, etc...etc...etc...

How are you measuring your snake? Is it by the sheds? If so, those have a great deal of variability in how much they stretch during the shedding process, and can be much longer than the actual snake.

Here's a great genetics tool, http://www.corncalc.com/index.jsp maybe that'll help some...

As far as growth goes... I agree with the above, all corns grow at their own rate. If you follow the Munson plan and your baby isn't getting fat or starting to look thin then she's growing just right for her.

Thanks for all the quick replies! :D

That makes sense! Thanks! Definitely satisfied my curiousity :D

No, I'm measuring my snake from tip of snout to tip of tail. Usually I hold her straight and my husband measures her. Granted, the measurements may be off by half an inch or so, but still fairly accurate.

Thank you!!!!!! This will give me something to look at while relaxing this evening! :D Can't wait! :)

And in response to all, she's not fat or skinny, so I guess she's growing just right haha Thank you all again!
