Ugh.. Stupid fish :(

RyanR

Canadian Boa Fanatic.
What a bad start to a day... I just watched an expensive rare fish, kill itself this morning, in my favorite tank.. she was a 14" Clown Trigger.. we can RARELY get them up here in canada, I got her at 4" for 225$. Show size in canada (10"-12") Sell for 600-800$.. Prize size (12+ Inches) sell for over a thousand....

Today I was feeding them ghost shrimp, Like I do once a week as a treat, and she was zipping around the tank, as she always does to catch them, as they are fast... next thing I know, I watch her swim FULL speed, into the glass....stopped in her tracks, she does a few twitches and then floats to the top dead :nope: not only Have I had this fish for a long time, and was my favorite.. but it shouldn't have happened.. shes in a 180 gallon tank thats 8 feet long, 2.5 feet wide and 1.5 feet high... MORE than enough room... yet she still slams into the glas.... :bang::headbang:

Oh, man...I've heard of that happening with many types of fish, but I've never seen it happen. That's gotta hurt big time. Sorry for your loss, Ryan.

Real sorry to here that Ryan, you must feel gutted....
Not in the cost, but because of the attachment growing something on gives you...

wow I'm so sorry, I didn't even know that could happen.....

I have a couple Jack Dempseys and a huge Pleco who like to freak out whenever I clean the tank and they're always running into stuff, I'm just glad that's never happend to me.

Thanks guys.. Its really something that should have NEVER happened in a tank this size... its not like they were cramped in a 55 gallon or something.. they had a 8 foot x 2.5 foot floor space! yet, it still swam into the glass full speed :\.... Thankfully My Sargassum Trigger, whos just over 14" hasn't been that stupid!

Ryan, maybe put black paper or a background on the ends of the tank in addition to the back? I imagine the added length hurt this time because she could build up more speed to ram with. Sorry for your loss!

I was thinking the same thing, Lauren...or maybe even some type of plant decal or something so the other one knows that the end of his space is in sight. I've heard of this happening with Balas as well, even in proper tanks.

Yep. My friend had several balas in a 180 and they all went out that way. :(

All sides but the front, are painted dark blue actually... allows the tank to be brighter when lights are on. :\ makes this even worse!
