*stretches* I'm out!
I've been trying to get Hunter used to being held for over a month, and things are just getting worse. =( Last night when I was holding him, he was doing his usual trying to leap out of my hands, and I was doing my usual hand in front of hand to give him a feeling like hes getting somewhere, well the little brat decided he'd had enough! HISS!! STRIKE!! MUSK!! POOP!! Yep, he nailed me with all 4! Is there anything I can do differently to help him get adjusted to being held? I like to hold all of my pets on a daily basis, partially for the freedom from their cages, partially for the attention I believe they need, and partially so I can make sure they feel and act normally and be sure there are no health problems.
I don't hold him tightly or anything, he is free to slither about my hands (if I put him on the bed ZOOM hes off.. and wow is he fast!) I make sure I don't smell like Treasure, or Snowflake (mouse) or Izzy (ferret). I have no trouble picking him up, no strike position or actual striking, and no tail rattling. I can hold him fine for about 2 minutes and then he goes ballistic trying to escape. Any ideas would be great! I worry about stressing him out so right now hes only being held around 5 minutes 4 days a week, the other 3 he is left alone to digest his squeaker.
Once I put him back in his viv however, he climbs up his branch and looks like he wants back out. I know hes probably just wanting out so he can try to escape, but I feel bad for giving him so little attention when I have Treasure out for 4 or 5 hours a day.
