Under The Water

Sometimes my snake squeezes under his cermanic waterbowl at night and stays there. I wake up in the morning to find him ICE COLD to the touch.

He wouldn't be doing this if it meant it could kill him, would he?

Just curious.

how many other hides other than the water bowl does he have? because if there is only 1 more and that is too hot for him, then he is likely to try and find a colder hide, even if it is too cold. try and supply atleast 2 other hides, 1 at the cold end 1 at the warm end. that way he can choose which hide i#he wants...

Mine do the same but I have replaced the colder ceramic bowl for a plastic one. I think they do it because its a more cramped space and they feel securer in smaller spaces. It wont kill him but if he persists in doing this move the water bowl closer to the hot end of the viv or simply place another empty water bowl in as a hide in the hot end. HTH! :)

What are the temps in your viv?

I'd invest in an indoor/outdoor digital thermometer, put the probe under the water dish, and the main part on the warm side. Check back with us. Ice cold is obviously an exaggeration, but it's alarming if the snake is already in too cool a tank and choosing the cool spot for it's hide. Just curious if you're getting in the brumation range of temps.
