Sorry if I struck a nerve? I wasn't looking for sympathy, I just wanted to share and get some advice. I didn't mean to imply that someone made me do anything, I felt like I had to so I did. Maybe you don't consider it a rescue because of the context, but I took an animal from a place that I subsequently had to call animal control about, so personally, I call that a rescue. I called the place that incubates the eggs for her too, they didn't know. Hopefully it will curb some of this..
 
I'm gad you took action. I might not have saved the baby like you did but I definitely would have B(word)+itched the person out and then called animal control. When I was younger I thought about being one of the "animal cops" like on the TV show but then I realized I would want to severely pummel those who were responsible for the animal(s) current state. I can't imagine the condition of their other pets if the babies have stuck sheds and broken bones! You did the right thing.

What would have made it a rescue then? If she put on a cape and broke in and stole it? Sounds like a rescue to me.

Quietly paying $15 for the snake so as not to cause conflict with the breeder sounds reasonable to me, especially considering that if she did cause a big stink with the breeder, the poor snake would probably still be there not receiving any kind of care. Considering she's contacting the breeder's incubator and animal control, I'd say she's not enabling them to continue at all.

Although she is looking a lot better.Any chance that you have the ladies name or some way to get info on her and write a BOI on Fauna?
Anyway hope she does great for you.

I do have her information - someone advised me not to give all of it out, so that no one does anything stupid. I don't have a Fauna account, but I can PM you with the info if you would like to post something? I did write something on the NW social group on this forum as well.
 
Ok well, I could do a BOI and give out a little of the information just to let people know not to buy from her.

I STRONGLY agree that paying someone who is neglecting their animals is NOT rescue, but I am glad that snake is in better hands.
 
Does any breeder here think $15 is going to fund their next breeding year?

Who knows if animal control will even do anything? Thank goodness that snake is not still there or it may be dead or close to it.
 
15 dollars could buy bedding, some food, water bowls, homes, hide outs, or anything else. That's 15 dollars less debt (or it could be surplus) that the breeder now has.

Paying for an animal is buying it. Not rescuing it. Breaking in would have been stealing it.
 
I meant her way sounds more like rescuing than breaking in or leaving it there.

Unfortunately alerting animal control doesn't always get results, so had she not purchased the snake, it could be dead or dying now.

In some cases, I believe that buying an animal IS rescuing an animal. I'm sure Niki is not the only one who has done this.

Let's agree to disagree.
 
Sounds like it was the best way. I doubt Animal protection agencies are really going to move quickly on a reptile abuse case, harder to garner sympathy of there's no fur.

Also, not that I'd ever want to find out, but how would a pet snake in captivity end up with broken bones?? Slam a lid on them? Does she have spring-loaded lids?
 
Wow that snake is blessed to have someone like you taking care of it... on the other hand that lady that neglected that snake...that is sooo cruel..!!! I would report her... when you get a pet... they are like children you have to provide for it and take care of it the best you can.... I don't understand it why people can allow so much pain into and animals life.. but I'm happy that lil guy is hanging in there!!! good luck XD

Oh, I have no complaint whatsoever about the Tropical Hut. I just mentioned stores in the area that are either reptile-centric, or who carry and sell a lot of reptiles, as well as other pets. Tropical Hut comes under the latter definition. I have made no judgments whatsoever about the stores (we generally use House of Reptiles more than the others, simply because it's about a quarter mile from Z's place of employment). That's for each person to decide on their own :). I also don't know if any of them will incubate eggs for someone else, but they might, so I listed them in case the OP wants to inquire.
 
I agree that sometimes paying for an animal is the only way to rescue it. I understand the point that the money she paid the breeder will possibly be used to further her breeding of snakes and possibly other animals. However, she was able to remove a neglected animal from its horrible conditions so I am sure the snake is grateful no matter if she paid for him or not. Ideally she would have gotten him free, but unfortunately that is not always possible.
 
The little guy finally let go tonight... I'm pretty upset. Although I was surely prepared for this situation, it still just plainly, sucks.
 
Oh no ! I'm so horribly sorry :( It's hart to imagine how much your heart can open up to a creature in such a little time. Again, so sorry
 
I am so sorry to hear that:(.at least you gave it a nice home for its last little bit of life.
