Update on my Tub project

Carinata

Ever Evolving Exotics
Well I am buying more tubs tonite. The test snake had a good night in his tub. I am gettin tubs for all but 2 snakes and my pacman frog. My grandpa is giving me his spare drill to use to drill holes. I have already began searching for some long shelves. Overall the project is going well. PM me if you have any questions.
Thanks!

dave i dont think ul need a drill for the holes, i did mine a certain way and it was SOOOO easy!
basically just take a screw driver (not too thick obviously), heat it up so its really hot. and then just gently push it through wer you want a hole and it will melt right through the side of the tub. Easy, quick, no cracks!

I'm copying robbiescornfeild's method using a romm heater. until I can buy mre heat mats

I recommend using a soldering iron for the holes. It's fast, easy and you get nice smooth consistant holes. The one I got came with a couple attachments so I have a larger head for the big tubs and a smaller one that I use for the hatchlings. Hope that helps. :)

I've heard that method suggested before and it seems like a really good idea to me.

One tip on the soldering idea. Either do it outside or in a VERY well ventilated room. The fumes will make you goofy in no time!

I along with quite a few of my friends who keep snakes have used room heaters... I mainly only use mine during winter because our house has terrible insulation and regardless of having heat tape, my tubs just don't stay warm enough.

room heaters have their place, but the problem is with david only using that as heat, therefore raising the heat in the whole tub, thus not providing both a warm and cool end for the snake to choose. that's my problem.

Yep.

If you set it up right, you can still get a fairly decent temperature gradient, even with the room heater. Especially with a rack system. The front of the rack can get rather warm, while the back portion stays fairly cool. And yes, I have checked with a temp gun to make sure the optimal temperatures are there for all parties.

The one thing about the room heater is that you can't really hook it up to a thermostat.
