Upgrading the size of viv's for corns

I have 3 separate 10g for snakes that began at 12". Now, they avg. 26"-30". What is the next recommended and permanent tank size that I should buy to replace the 10g. My sister has an old 55g in which she kept fish. Would this be too much per snake...I like alot of space myself. (I house my pet rats in nearly 30 cubic feet). I am going to attend the snake show in Cleveland Dec. 10, do these shows sell tanks or will the prices scare me? :shrugs:

I've read and heard that corns can live in a 20 long for their entire life. Personally I think that is too small and I am putting my year old corns in a 30 breeder from Critter Cages All Glass Aquarium. They run about $79.99 and it includes a sliding locking lid. Good luck!

they can live in 20L for their whole lifes, but if you are going to more shoes and plan on buying more snakes it might be easier for you to just build a rack system. house them in 30Qt. containers and that is good, there is a good thread on how to make them floating around made by CAV himself

I keep a few corns in the 20 longs but they are all over the house (the tanks) and you do run out of furniture to put them on top of eventually.
A rack is not perhaps the best way to display your collection since you pretty much have to pull out the tub to see the snake. Still the way to go if you have large numbers of snakes.
If it were me I would put a divider in that big 55 tank and be able to keep two in there.

Well, now. Divide the tank. :dunce: I never thought of that! I think I will do that. I only have 3 snakes: a brown, an orange, and a pink. I will get carried away if I don't put a cap on this habit but I would love to have a purple (lavender). I do not want to stack. Like someone said, I will have to pull the viv for everything...I like things set up in a permanent, simple way for user-friendliness. Thank you to all.

:eek1: You have a 55g tank too that you're dividing in half??? I'm doing that soon once I get my 2nd one. Heh heh. :crazy02:

I used the 30 gl. for all of them except my amel. He's so big that I decided to move him to a 40 gl.

Not sure whether you got an answer to this yet (or if you are still interested). I believe most of the shows, at least the bigger ones, usually have a vendor that sells vivs. It probably all depends on the show. If you can find one, a vendor list should give you a better idea of what to expect. I would suggest trying to find some of the more "mom and pap" type shops in your area and pricing tanks. I priced at 4 different places in my area. Some places wanted $50-60 for a 20 long. I found them for $36 at one of the stores. Good luck putting a "cap" on the habit! :)

Goodness, ZWyatt! You have quite a set up! How many do you have?! :eek1: :crazy02:

Well, thank you, but what I have is nothing compared to what many around these parts have! If you do a search on racks or rack systems you will probably see what I mean.

Here are a couple bad pics of my "set ups". I need to build a rack system, but in the meantime you can see where all the harchlings are in 6 qt tubs. Since they are clear tubs I can actually see them very well :).
The early 05s are in the 12 qts(shown in the second pic) and the 03 are in 31qt tubs.
You have already found you can't stop at one :D so the tubs do make a space efficient and cost effective alternative. And you can turn almost anything into a makeshift 'rack'.

I would probably...

Moving them in a 20g is alright, but to me thats just way to small for a full grown corn. So I would recommend a 30g or a 40g and that would be pretty much good.

Peace,

How or Do you really get them all out to 'play' with them, or do alternate on weekends...lol...WOW that is impressive!
If you were referring to me, yes I do really get them all out to play :). Some of the favorites do get a little more handling than others. But I have myself and my 3 daughters to provide "playtime" and I rotate feeding days so that everyone is not on the do not handle list at the same time.
I don't have nearly the collection as many on here and I do wonder sometimes how I will manage when they start nearing the triple digits :shrugs: or how they manage through hatchling time :eek1:
