uth and probe question

is the place of a probe supposed to be right on top of the uth, of course my uth is stuck to the outside of my viv, and i put the probe in the middle on the inside then put the aspen over it, is this correct, or is there a better way to get a better reading? alsom someone told me to put a piece of slate over my uth heater on the inside if i can't get the temp controlled, has anyone ever heard of that?

You can always have the probe on the outside with the UTH. All you have to do is adjust the setting to the correct temp. The slate will disburse the heat over a larger area then the UTH covers.

That's where all my temp probes are- the hottest place the snake can get to- the middle of the pad right on the glass.

Yes, I have heard of putting slate or a heavy floor tile on top of the UTH. But you're not thinking of not returning the rheostat that lets it get to 99F on the lowest setting are you?

I've had good luck with the Zoo Med R500 Thermostats- but will be switching to a higher quality with my new cages- but the Zoo Meds are doing fine for me. They _do_ allow about a 10F range- so I am hoping with a proportional thermostat that the temps will stay closer to the target temp. But the Zoo Med has, once dialed in, never gone higher than I wanted it to.
