UTH big problem

bataco

Daniel
the uth is connected tu the rheostat and it's set to the lowest.... it stills gives me 95°F!! what can I do?

I've never tried a rheostat but our thermostat keeps the temp very stable. We have a Zoo Med 500R, I believe.

argh I'm so angry.... I won't find a regulator easily and I was in the united states a week ago.... I thought I would be ok with the regulator dammit

The best thing to do is make your own rheostat. Do a search for it on here. It gives step by step instructions and it is cheaper. I have made several and they work great!

I replied to someone, maybe even you, that the zoo-med rheostat just doesn't go low enough. Either make you own by wiring in a dimmer switch used for lights (there are directions in here somewhere, be sure to use a junction box and secure the wires going in and out), or (better!) get a 500R. You won't be sorry you did.

haha yeah merlin you told me like a month ago when I already had purchased it but I didn't tested it so I had to make sure it was crap and YES IT IS! tomorrow morning I'll go buy the stuff to make my rheostat, it works cool?

yeah it will take you a little bit to adjust it to the right temp but after that you really don't have to touch it unless the temp of your house changes dramatically.

no... the cold side has stayed in 70° and lowers down to 60 or 64 so I don't worry about it
it's just amazing that I have a regulator and gives me temps of 95, its just unbelievable

I actually ended up keeping the zoo-med rheostat, but I use to to turn a lamp up and down.

I had a problem with Vern's cool end getting too cool, and here's what I ended up doing that JUST HAPPENED to work out nicely. I had a small UTH on one side and put a larger UTH on the other. The 500R probe is on the big one and is set to keep it at right about 85*. It just worked out that plugging the small UTH in the thermostat keeps it about 6-7 degrees lower than the warm side. There's plenty of non-heated area, with hides, between the two, so she can thermoregulate to her heart's content.

You can get a piece of floor tile and put it in th eviv, over the UTH, to cut the temp down. Like a 8" or 12" square piece of heavy tile that the snake can't move. That should help a lot.

nanci that's a great idea too! I think i'll do that! With all the aspen I think the snake won't move it
