UTH/ Heat Lamp Question...

CMatt2157

Don't Be "That Guy"
I recently got a new tank and setup and have a question about heating. I actually bought 2 Red Tail Boas and I just have a general question that I'm sure anyone can answer. My tank is 60g and I have a 150w UV light, that heats the warm side up to 89F. However, the cool side remains 76F.

For boas... the temp. gradient should be 82-90F with a basking spot of 92-95F. Obviously the temps are not warm enough.

So my question is, I am going to buy a UTH and I'm curious to know which side I should put it on. Cool side or warm side? If I put it on the warm side, combined with the heat lamp, will the temp. become too hot?

I know this is obviously forums for Corn Snakes, however, I just need some opinions. Any info. would be helpful. Thanks.

I posted here because I obviously own a corn snake and since everyone here has some knowledge, I figured I could get some advice. However, there's always people like you who do not offer help and point me to something I'm not interested in. I figure this is not chit-chat and is actually basic husbandry.

I'll go ahead and change what I'm asking then and leave out the fact I have boas.

Should a heat lamp and UTH be put on the same side or differing sides? Thanks.

My tank has a gradient of 78 - 82 with a basking spot of 90 - 94

I dont use anything on the cool end to keep the temperatures up, i have a heat mat that covers 2 thirds of the tank, one half of the mat gets to 90+ but the other half is always in the low 80's. I dont know why this is but its a good thing ;)

The lowest temp reading i have ever had was 76, but she was still happy to sit there for almost a week. The snake will chose what temperature it wants to be at. If you are worried though, then get a heat mat and set it to 80 on the cool end. No cutting corners or worrying when you know what equiptment you have.

I guess im just lucky that my double heat mat has different temperatures at different ends :p

Right now the cool end is at 78, middle section where the heat mat starts is at 82 and her basking spot is at 93 :)

Thanks Tula, The temps. were actually a little higher this morning... after having a full night of heating. The warm side was 92-94F with the cool side being 78-82F. That seems fine to me.

I don't think a UTH will be necessary, since the snakes can choose what temp. they want. However, they are both being lazy and basking under the hot spot. I'm thinking mainly because one of them ate yesterday and the other just exited his blue-phase.

They sound fine to me :) Just don't let the temps drop to anything in the low 70's.

Sounds like your critters are doing well :) Please post more pictures soon... im such a boid fiend!! lol

:sobstory:

Heck I figured you would be intrested in the correct forum to post this in but I guess you don't care about the rules of this forum.

If you look at the description or this forum it says that it is for Corn related husbandry and basic care.

The General chit-chat forum is for all non-corn related topics even for husbandry related issues that have nothing to do with corns. By telling you this I was trying to be helpful. You obviously knew that you were not supposed to post this here but did anyways, I was just trying to point you to the correct forum.

Haha... Yes, you're right... I obviously don't care about the rules. I understand you're "trying to help," however, it's not a big deal to get the opinions of others. That's it.

Just so you know Rich Z (The owner of this site) has asked that all non-corn topics be posted in the General Chit-Chat area, but obviously you don't care about the wishes of this sites owner.

And by the way you little attack on me was very immature.
