UTH question

Should I put a pice of repti carpet on top of the part of the tank where the uth is then put the aspen in or just throw the aspen bedding right on top of the uth. my concern was that the snake could burn itself or sumthin burrowing in the bedding. IDK im new to all this

If you use a digital thermometer to read the temperature, directly on top of the mat and set the thermostat to 85*F according to that reading, then your corn will not burn itself if it burrows in the bedding above the heat mat

When I got my snake she had the carpet in her viv, she went under it all the time. If you use a heater you need to regulate it's max temperature.

So what they are saying is you need a thermostat, or your snake may burn itself. The UTH can reach temps of 120F unregulated. I used to do that (with a thermostat) put reptile carpet down, then put aspen on top. The snakes would always be under the carpet in this intricate set of tunnels. They liked it, but were hard to catch under there. It was a huge relief to stop doing it.

A good beginner thermostat is the ZooMed 500R, bought on line for half as much as in the store, or the basic Big Apple herp model, bought on line.

Alright cool . yea i have a thermostat and digital thermometer i let it max at 90

90's pretty hot. I'd lower it to 85F. On the mat, under the hide, under the aspen.
