Usually you don't wire it directly to the UTH. You just place the probe above the UTH in the cage. Below the substrate. to get a good reading.
Then you can plug in the UTH to a rheostat to regulate the heat or use a thermostat.

This shows how to make one.

Good Luck

Haven't had your coffee yet Lenny? :sidestep:

I don't know about thermostats, so I can't help you. I just couldn't resist teasing my old pal Lanny a bit. :grin01: :grin01: :grin01:

In case you couldn't make it out from whatever that other post said, the UTH plugs in to the thermostat and the thermostat plugs in to the electric outlet. Don't forget a digital thermometer with a probe as well. I like the dual display indoor/outdoor type sold at walmart for uinder $10.

Like what Flagg said, you plug the thermostat into the wall and then plug your UTH into your thermostat. Then the probe on the thermostat goes right next to where the probe is that's measuring the temperature. Each thermostat has a different way of setting the temperature, so I can't help you hthere.

OK thank Ill have to make a trip to wally world in the morning, I bought a little digital themomitor that has a wire with a probe at the end of it and its sitting on the glass of the 10g tank and I'm freaked out that the UTH get the glass up to 108 degrees needless to say i know that this is to much heat and need to correct it asap.

WalMart has the thermometers, which it sounds like you already have. They don't sell thermostats for reptiles. You could however use a lamp dimmer from walmart ro set the temp to the proper level, though you will have to check and adjust it often. Thermostats are best becuase you only really have to set them once and they take care of fluctuations in room temp.

Most thermostates that you can buy in stores like wal-mart are for your airconditioner/heater and work off of 24 volts. They won't work with 110 volts. So plugging something like this into an outlet won't work.

If it's something you're comfortable doing, get the stuff to make a rheostat and use that until you can get a thermostate for reptiles. Untill then, raise the tank so that there is an inch or two between the UTH and the bottom of the tank. This should help reduce the temp in the tank.

Or just BUY a plug in lamp dimmer from Wally world for about the same price. It's the same thing.

Thanks Becky,
I didn't think of buying one already made up. I just don't remember seeing one like that. It will be easier that way.

You ought to be able to find them over with the small electrical stuff. I often have to hunt for them, but they are there.
