Viv manafacturers?

Plissken

Crazy Snail Lady
Hi everyone,

I'm frantically researching everything I can in preperation for the purchase of my very first corn snake.

I'm looking for a reputable place to buy vivariums from. There isn't a huge selection near to where I live and I don't have the option of travel to collect a vivarium.

So I'm looking for Vivarium manafacturers who will deliver to me if I order online. I live in the UK too, so if it's an American firm, it must be able to ship to me. I've found VivBuilder, but I can't find any others. :/

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for double-posting but there's no edit feature and I thought of something I wanted to add...

I know this is one of the most common questions, but I'm still very confused as to what viv size an adult corn needs. I know 20gallons, but all the vivs I have looked at aren't measured in gallons. The one I'm looking at right now has measurements:

24"Long – 610mm Length x 580mm Height x 380mmDepth

Is this a good size? If not, what is?

*very confused...* I so badly want to get this right.

www.vivtronic.co.uk

http://www.everythingforpets.com/category/use.dept.995/

UK websites will generally give you the dimensions of the vivarium or tank in cm.

The length x the height x the width (all in cm) will give you the size of the vivarium in litres

Then go to www.calculator.com, "unit converter" and put in the amount of litres you have then press "calculate", this will give you a measurement for "gallons", which is what you want, not "imperial gallons".

Tanks/vivariums which are longer and wider, rather than tall, are best.

Hope that helps :p I'm also in the Uk and thats where/how I've been doing most of my vivarium research

The tank you posted is 134l. To get this you do (length x height x breadth) diveded by a thousand.

so 35 US gallons
or 29 UK gallons (imperial gallons)

I see! So that viv would be more than large enough for an adult corn?
Good to know!

Thanks for the links too. I've viewed some of them, but I will check out the ones I haven't seen before.

I just have this fear with shopping online that the stores won't be secure - is there any way to tell?

A padlock sign on the bottom right had corner.

If you tell me where you are I might know somwhere close to you.

oops  I forgot about the divide by a thousand bit! Thanks for the correction there (why is there no edit function on these forums may I ask?), might have caused more confusion than help without it :nope:

I think some of those sites (vivbuilder possibly) might let you pay in cash on delivery. That would be an option if you were nervous about online shopping

None of the sites have a padlock sign, is that just when you are in the shopping basket/ checkout section?

And I live in Kent, close to Canterbury. There are 2 reptile shops near me but one doesn't have much selection. The other I'm not sure about, I'm going to look around there soon. I hear that one's pretty small too though.

Sorry don't know of any near there. All of them will be able to order in what you want though and then you won't need to pay shipping. Never had a problem getting stuff that isn't stocked from mine.

Sorry don't know very much about the padlock sign just it should be there

I use the hobbyist range. Commonly available online in the UK.

(Google for "hobbyist vivarium" .... you'll get plenty results)

The 36" is big enough for an adult corn (no harm in going bigger though). They are £80 here but the shipping is a killer .... an extra £42!

If you have anywhere near you that does reptiles ask them if they can order one in for you. They'll take deliveries from reptile suppliers anyway so with any luck you can avoid a large shipping fee.

They aren't light items so buying one mail order or online is always going to cost you a fairly large shipping fee.

If you use ebay, there a few at decent prices on there. Had a quick look just now and you can get a 48" one, including delivery, for a sniff under £80 .... which is a pretty good deal. (Link

or you could build your own. out of melamine for quite cheap my two tanks cost me 130 euros to build and then the lights and that came to a bit more and both my set up are 4x2x2

Thank you for your help!
I searched the web some more and came across a fantastic website, very official looking, which will see me a 36" viv for £87. And with just £4 posting. Fantastic.

They also had a well-priced starter kit. I have bookmarked the site and will likely buy from there.

Thanks again!
