W/C Everglades locality corns

DMong

colubrid connoisseur
Here are a few exceptional animals I acquired from my buddy Gerard that are all 100% locality-specific originating from near Everglades National Park in the extreme southern tip of Florida.

Here is a one-of-a-kind aberrant male that is totally aberrant from head to tail!. He is virtually like motley, striped and Tessera were all combined into one single animal. I hope to prove his phenotype heritable in the near future!!!..

Note the totally mosaic, tesselated sides as well. His belly is very very normally checkered.

Here is a Miami-type female captured within feet of the aberrant male.

This is another female captured in the same area. She seems to have an upper Keys Rosy rat/Miami phenotype that would certainly correlate with the locale she came from.

here is a killer yellowish "buckskin" male that was captured about 1/4 mile from the others above. This guy has a strong yellow hue to his background that will surely get much more pronounced as he matures.

These guys are gorgeous! I especially love the last one!

Thank you very much!

Yes, my buddy was almost wishing he never gave me the yellow buckskin corn..LOL!

reproducing more of both the top aberrant and the last one you commented on are my real goals. He told me he is going to try to find another one close to that last one if he can in the same area. I can only imagine how much more yellow he develops as he has a whole lot more maturing to do. I can't wait to see what he ultimately becomes.

Thanks again for the kind words :)

Nice pick ups and project Doug. Hopefully the abbarent pattern proves out for you. Like the males for sure, but I also like the girls, I am partial to light colored corns. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Well, if you or he wind up with a surplus if those buckskin fellows keep me in mind...

Thanks so much Daryl!. Yeah, I REALLY like that "buckskin" dude a BUNCH!. I would really love to produce more like him. I told Jim G. about these guys about a month ago, and he was really excited about this sweet aberrant just as I am. I will definitely be doing some back-flips if he proves the trait heritable for sure!

BTW, I'm glad you guys are good buddies from the same area and are able to get together now and then, Jim's a really nice guy. You probably know that I have a group of the killer "moonshine's" he discovered. What a rush of excitement that must have been when he stumbled onto that guy in the wee hours of the morning. I am thinking he didn't need any coffee to get him going that particular morning after the snag..HAHAA!

cheers, ~Doug

It might be a while, but I most certainly will!. If my buddy is lucky enough to find a similar one this year in that same area, it could definitely speed up the process substantially. :)

Don't get me wrong, I like the abbarent pattern alot and his color. Why don't you work on the abbarent pattern in the buckskin coloration?????

Yeah, Jim and I see each other a good bit and we are partners in Palmetto Reptiles. Heck, he and I talk on the phone more everyday than I do with my wife and mom, lol.

Don't want to dilute your thread with the moonshine talk, but they are really cool. You should ask him about the lemon yellow colored male. Keep us updated and I wish the best for your project

Oh yes!, I will definitely be working on putting that gene into the buckskin as soon as possible, as well as hypo lavenders and a number of other morphs. And of course the 100% locality-specific part of the equation is very important to maintain in a group too, as the one Miami female was found just mere feet from where the smoker aberrant male was found. But all four are from the exact same location also.

Ohhh, Jim and I have certainly talked about his choice hold-back lemon yellow male.....it is certainly the cat's meow!

Man do I love locality stuff...That one would sure make a great start to a buckskin Oke project...Really hope to see the continued growing interest in the beautiful localities, good luck with them :)

Thank you very much Chris!. We are definitely on the exact same page there my friend. It's just incredible to see these insanely unique and variable phenotypes originating from the same exact small area of practically their southernmost range!. The exception being the lower Keys "Rosy rats" of course. I sure do miss the sweet rosacea I used to work with in the mid 90's...*sigh*

I love the aberrant male. I'd be testing that with everything! As well as making F1's to breed back. And I actually like his color the best of them all, too.

I need to take new pics of my Boot Keys- they are well over 300 grams now. But if you'd like to see them, search for Phoenix and Scarlett.

Thanks Nancy!,.......ooooh yesss!!, that aberrant male will INDEED be bred to many things in the near future..LOL!. I have been extremely stoked about him ever since I first laid eyes on him about a month ago prior to acquired him. He was an absolute MUST HAVE!!..LOL!

Yes, I will definitely check out your Boot Key locale corns. I have always LOVED the Keys locality phenotypes myself. I look forward to any more pics you post of those guys. :)

They are all absolutely gorgeous, Doug! I really love the yellows on the Buckskin, and I do hope the abberant one proves out to be genetic. Please keep us updated on all these guys! :)

Thanks so much, Suzy!,.........I just LOVE this awesome group!..LOL!

I will definitely keep everyone updated on these guys and what transpires with future breedings. Can't wait to see the buckskin's yellow intensify as he matures! :)
