hi guys. just a couple of quick questions i was wondering about. wernt sure if this is the right forum they should be on but here it goes anyway....

i havnt yet seen my snake actually in his water bowl, iv seen him drinking out of it (so cute) but as for actually bathing in it i dont think hes realised he can do this and get the moisture from the water. Is this something snakes will figure out in ther own time or do some snakes just not like to do it all together?? hes only a hatchling so maybe he feels a bit vunrable out in the open his his bowl?? i dunno. lol

also...what are these reptile shows what i here peaople talkin about? they sound really kool and interesting? Does anyone know of any that ever happen in England because i would like to go to one and have a look what its all about.

Of my five, three actively get in their bowls, one lounges around the rim a lot, and one I've never seen go anywhere near her bowl.

Hmm, the only corn I have never seems to leave his hid. Therefore, I never see him drink or get near the water bowl. Im pretty sure he does some stealth moves at night when Im asleep, gets water, cruises, plans his escape and then to fool me goes back to exactly where he was before.
 
Mo will drink and slither through water but she (i think female) has never in my presence bathed in the bowl.
 
sounds very similar to my snake, Dezmond. Iv never seen him actually in his water in my company. Im trying to keep his humidity up though because iv got a feeling hes going to shed. Is the correct humidity percentage 65 or something? and 70 when ther in shed??? not sure. :shrugs:
 
I wouldn't worry about it. Not all Cornsnakes will take a "bath" in their water bowls.
Many cornsnakes do not lounge in their water bowls and some, if they do get into their water bowls at all, may only do a very quick dip or a leisure slide in and slide back out.

Just make sure you keep the humidity levels at an appropriate range.

I have a fair amount of Cornsnakes, a couple of Milksnakes, and a few Kingsnakes. None of them lounge, or swim around, in their water bowls ... with the exception of one of my Kingsnakes who will actually get in (entire body), on that rare occasion, for a rather short swim. If one of my Milksnakes gets in (rare) it is a pop in and pop right back out. I have only seen one of my Cornsnakes actually take a (approx. 10 minute) swim in her water bowl... that was when she first arrived here ... and I have not seen her do it since. Other than that, I may (on a rare occasion) see one of my snakes do a very quick dip (in and right back out ... many times not even getting their full body in).... while others do not even do that.
Considering, I think I'd start to be concerned (or wonder if I should be concerned) if any of my snakes ~did~ start to lounge around, in their water bowls, on a regular, or semi-regular, basis. :grin01:

Bottom line is that you should not be concerned if your Cornsnake does not bathe in its water bowl.:)

Reptile shows ... A place where breeders, vendors, etc. gather. Breeders will exhibit snakes/reptiles &/or sell snakes/reptiles. Vendors are there with supplies. Other vendors may be there to meet your snake/reptile feeding needs (i.e. selling f/t or live mice/rats/rabbits, crickets, or ?). Etc.
It is nice, to go to one, because, there, you can see a wide variety of different snakes/reptiles (and different morphs), and can speak to breeders &/or other fellow herpers, or pick up some needed items.
Of course, going to Reptile shows could also be bad if you are someone, like me, who's trend seems to be that they cannot go to a reptile/snake show without leaving with a new snake (<chanting> "I need to exhibit more self control, I need to exhibit more self control, I need to ...."). :grin01:

For Cornsnakes, humidity should, normally, be in the 40-60% range.

If there is a little less humidity (than 40%), it can be okay as long as they are not in shed mode (though 40%, or +, is better).

On the other end of the spectrum... Humidity, that is kept too high, can also set you up for other problems.

I have 4 corns. The last one I just purchased sunday at a reptile show. My first 3 I have never seen in thier water bowls even though they are big enough for the snakes to swim and lounge in. Our new one went straight for the water bowl and took a few laps then sat there for about 10 minutes and decided going under the bowl was better and haven't seen it since. I think it's an individual snake thing as to whether or not they like to soak or take laps in thier bowls.

I got Choco a bigger water bowl a few weeks ago, and last night he was laying in a circle around the rim, then using it to stand on to try to get to the top, then he'd go off for a while, then come back and lay on the rim again.

my snake mae rarely uses her waterbowl. one day she was trying to reach and stretch out to the top of her viv, lost her balance and fell straight into her waterbowl. that was the fastest i've ever seen her move to her hide.
 
That's funny! Inez avoids hers, too- like it's a bowl of battery acid or something. There's no way I can set her down in it. But- she's the calmest about being held under running water for a bath, because she musks me all the time, like every time, and then has to get washed off. She doesn't mind at all. Then she gets dried with a dish towel. It's just SOP for her.
