Helloooooo out there!
I've read mixed reports. Should the water I supply for my baby corn be dechlorinated with a chemical or is tap water ok? I have city water which is of very good quality from the tap, but I'm sure there is fluoride and chlorine in it. What is best? Thanks!
 
You can buy a product to remove chlorine and chloramines from your tap water if you need large volumes of it. I just use those 2 1/2 gallon bottles of water from Whole Foods. Just make sure it's not distilled or carbonated.
 
Im not the most experienced in this department, but ive read enough about corns recently to be able to write my own book! I have heard the best thing to use is bottled water, changed every other day.
 
If you use tap water, then definitely use dechlorinator. Unless you have a filter on your tap that removes fluoride/chlorine/chloramines, those things will stay in your water and can be harmful to some animals; I don't know how toxic they might be to snakes, but I think it's better to play it safe. Personally, I wouldn't give tap to anything smaller than a rabbit. I keep fish, which are really touchy with chemicals, so I always have a ton of dechlorinator on hand (it would be quite expensive to be buying 90+ gallons of bottled every week for water changes. ;))

If you need to use it, I would recommend getting one of the little bottles that "doses" in drops, rather than teaspoons or such; I'm not sure if I've seen reptile dechlorinators, but the stuff for bettas would probably be fine. My dechlorinator of choice is Prime, but one capful treats 50 gallons, so it's a bit impractical for treating small amounts of water.

For the time being, though, my snake water comes from bottles. Right now it's just easier that way.
 
I use tap water straight from the tap into the water bowl. Been doing it for 14 yrs like this and no problems.

I also use tap water for my snakes, all my animals for that matter. Just make sure you change it every once in awhile, or right away if it gets contaminated.
 
I suppose it depends where you are from and what the water quality is like. Some areas the water is 'harder' than others. Im not entirely sure what it is like in my area, so I go for the bottled water option!
 
If you let tap water sit in a bowl overnight, most of the chlorine evaporates out I believe. If in doubt, use bottled. But most use tap water with no problems.

What about Chloramine then, is that harmful to them too? I notice all conditioners say they neutralize both chlorine and chloramine........the drinking conditioner and the aquarium conditions for fish.

I've been using tap since I've own snakes and it's been fine for me and my fellow creatures. :crazy02:

I guess its where you are. Our water stinks here, literally and I dont even drink it, but ive been to other places where the water is actually................refreshing LOL Imagine that.
