That's... very weird. o.o She doesn't look like any stripe I've ever seen--look at those sides! On the other hand, she has a clean, but not white, belly and the stripe is not contiguous, so I doubt it could be a tessera.... Terrazzo would be almost pattern-less, unlike this stunning critter! *shrug* It looks like it could almost be a motley stripe, but that would only be possible if the mom was het for stripe.

I think I'll give the personal opinion that it's a particularly exemplary little motley stripe, but I'd want to test breed the mom to be sure (and I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert). :) Either way, sure is a gorgeous little snakey! ^_^

EDIT: Looking at the picture again, I still don't think it could be tessera since the stripe is broken so many times and the belly is clear but not white; however, the fact that the stripe does continue all the way to the tip of the tail and does not appear to break at the girdle (the spot directly opposite the vent).... That is a tessera trait. If the female has ever been bred to a tessera, it might be possible. I think you should test breed this snake as soon as is safely possible. XD

Actually, they can.

The belly patterns are all over the charts. A precious few have enough belly checkering to qualify them as wild-type common corns -- until you flip them over to see their mutant pattern elsewhere. About 1/3 of them have roughly 15% to 30% of the volume of checkering seen in wild-types, and about 1/3 or more have virtually no belly checkering at all. Some of the ones with NO belly checkering have organized strings of black markings running the length of both sides of the belly, along the ventral keel.

Actually, they can.
So, tesseras can have that many belly checkers.

The best way to know if it is a tessera is to breed it to a corn with normal pattern that is not het for any pattern mutation.
If it is tessera half of hatchlings will be tessera to.

But, if it is true non of the parents were tessera, then this snake is just a mockley.

I dont believe the female has any tessera in her do to the fact that the guy i got her from has no tesseras. I just think its a way weird mot/stripe thing. I cant wait to breed her to her bro in a few years and see what pops out! I'm just happy she lived, had close to an inch opening on her belly AND she was tiney.

Well, she wouldn't have tessera in her genetically... because it's a dominant trait.

However, if she was bred to a tessera, say on breeding loan, then she could have retained sperm.

No, i had her a year before i bred her and she was only bred once by the other guy. she does have VERY dark babies aswell. She was not up to weight this year so ill see what she pops out next season!

.........that the snake just is a het motley with aberrant pattern.

Thanks Terri! Sorry guys- no conspiracy... I wish I would have kept the breeders contact info BUT I didn't know they were going to be anything special. I have a large collection... it was years ago and I've moved a few times...any reciept is long gone... my bad. Heck, I had them a few years before be figured out they were something new... I just like okeetees and this was my "striped okeetee" project....
