Weird?

RyanR

Canadian Boa Fanatic.
my one cornsnake Amel(just over a year) only eats freshly killed(CO2) well im just wondering if its werid that he litteraly chews on the neck of the mouse till its wide open and bleeding :| and on one occasion ive notcied when there was lots of blood in the container he acculy "Drank" some :S i find this very werid do you?

Sounds like you have a rare "Dahmer" corn. Just ensure that you don't leave sharp objects unattended around him.

I think to be a true "Dahmer", he'd need a b-b-q! :) This sounds more like the even rarer Count Cornula Vampire snake.

LoL thanx for the laugh

On a serious note.. anyone else Encounterd this? when he has bitten on to the kneck he like chews lifts one side of jaw then other and it looks like a side ways chewing motion :| he wont eat the mouse untill blood was been drawn... only thing i can think of is when he was little he wouldnt eat so i gave him a brained pinkie :|

When he first grabs the mouse, he grabs on the neck? The sideways biting motion is possibly the snake moving down the body to the head, and the blood is just a result of the teeth tearing up the mouse. I have noticed one of my adults doing this . He bites the mouse about mid way down, constricts, then moves up the body with the sideways biting motion. I have seen a couple ocations where blood is drawn, but not every time.

My 6 or 7 month old amel. does that same thing. He will start to bite it at the stomach region, then he will move up or down the mouse with that same biting action til it gets to the end. Mine has never yet drawn blood, maybe yours just has a real strong bite?? I thought it was weird the first time he did it, but he does it every time, so now I am used to it. My other two don't do that though, so I guess it just depends ont he snake.

Hey Ryan, I've noticed that behaviour in my corns too. It seems as if they get a bit 'confused' and think they can eat the whole mouse sideways, decide they actually can't so move on round to a more 'swallowable' end!
Or elae you should start wearing garlic round your neck and make sure your vivs are well secured! lol
