Is it a motley corn snake?

I am very newbie when it come to the different types. I hope I am not too far off.

I'm submitting a guess before I read anything else . . .looked at the picture only. So, that disclaimer of ignorance being expressed, let me suggest that this is a bloodred x amber/carmel product. Am I right? Probably not, but that is what I would imagine one looking like.

Caramel Motley?

Looks just like the one on the Serpenco's site for caramel motley, but I don't know how the belly would look like.

hmm

Kinda hard to tell... is it a banded normal het bloodred and carmal???

hehe I really am stumped on this one... what is it?

I know, I know!

Gorgeous, that's what it is. I mean, look at the way those saddles fade out towards the center... mmm. Your babies are stunning, Mr. Boyer, as always.

OK, here's the scoop...

I bought this Milksnake phase snake from Rich Z. He deserves the praise!

It is one of 2 males that Rich sent me. I don't know anything about it's background other then it's a Milksnake phase. They were hold backs, the other male has more banding. I bred the second male to a Snow to test it's genetics. I have a feeling they are either het Motley or Motley. The Motley gene seems to take a different aproach with the selectively bred pattern change. The odd ventral pattern seems to indicate the presence of the Motley mutation in one form or another.

I don't know if Rich is breeding this line of darker phase animals or not. It appears to me that this would fit into the Copperhead phase that we've been hearing about (but not seeing :( )

I have not been having good luck with my Milksnake phase breeding projects, my best female died in brumation and my original female laid a bad clutch. I have one more female that should go next year. Wish me luck!

I didn't put in a guess because I had no idea what to say:) It is a very pretty snake and I love the dark colors. It looks like it doesn't have a head pattern??? or is it the pic. Good luck with your milksnake phase breeding project. I hope all goes well for you.

'Copperhead' phase.......

Never did spend any time to figure out where this comes from. I will hatch out a bunch of Milk Snake Phase corns, and some will become very nice gray and red snakes, while others get this copperhead coloration. Of course, you can't see it in the babies.

The Milk Snake Phase line itself will tend to have partially unpatterned abdomens. This got somewhat enhanced when I bred Motley to them, but I have not sold any of this line as regular Milk Snake Phase corns.

I bred Hypo into the Copperhead Phase years ago, and everytime I plan on getting rid of that line, something interesting will pop out of it. Last year I bred Ultra Hypo into it and got a few completely different looking Hypos. Then the year before, one of the females threw a Ghost that looks pretty interesting.

I have found that the best way to get interesting surprises from the eggs is by putting one or both of the parents on the surplus list while the eggs are incubating. Without fail, something odd will hatch out causing me to have to keep those adults instead of being able to move them out. In some ways, it's a curse.

curse?!?!?!

i don't know about everyone else here but i'm dying to go out and find some skinny, old, gypsy woman to lay that curse on me....
alakazam!!!!!!!! :)

Clint

Do you have any pics of this snake when it was younger?
Just wondering if my motleyXmilk will grow up to look as cool.
