I have been following this thread with interest and finally have time to chime in. I started keeping my harems 1.3 in the 30g plastic tubs with a top I fashioned out of wire cloth. I learned quickly that 1.2 in this case works better because the females tend to argue with each other far to much. Since having gone to 1.2 most of the time things are peaceful. Yesterday I had a battle between a mother due to deliver and her sister who has 10 18 day old pups with her. The big mama wanted everything, so I moved her into a tank by herself and moved the occupants in there into the tub with the mom and pups. Short a cage right now yet again. I like the look of the rack and when my other half gets home will discuss it as a weekend project. Right now with 16 female rats, and 12 hamsters its fun but I also am not producing enough to feed what snakes are not brumating. When they come out in two weeks I will need to buy some to get me over the hump. I am also running out of room seemingly everywhere not to mention the other half's tolerance is running rather low.
It's been fun and I love playing with the color and coat genetics with the rats.
Still cannot explain some results but it's all good.
Peace.
