:shrugs: My corn shed tonight,,but didn't get it all off by her self.The last 3rd of her underside and about 2" of her tail,,didn't shed.I let her work through some moist paper towels and helped get the rest of it off.
Now,,the humidity in the tanks is at 50% to 52%,,should it be higher,,or do sheds sometimes just happen like this ?.
 
You're in NY, I'm in Ohio. Probably similar temps and humidity and I had 2 last week that broke off the last 1/3 of its shed. I put them in a container with moist sphagnum moss and left them alone for a few hours. They got it off themselves. I think sometimes it just happens. Even though I try to keep humidity up, I know it's dryer than I'd like it. All I have to do is look at my chins after a shower; break out the Cornhuskers.:grin01:
 
With the humidity in the tanks is at 50% to 52%, I can't say why??? But next time you could try misting the cage or make a humid hide when your snake goes into blue.
 
On the cool side there is cave hide,,if I make that a moist hide when shes getting ready to she,,she'll seek it out ?.
 
Sometimes it just happens. I'll second the other suggestions of raising the humidity a bit more next time. Yes, if you make a humid hide, she will go into it if she needs to.
 
I'd make a moist hide out of a plastic container- it needs a bottom to hold the moisture in. I also put a sheet of plastic wrap loosely on top of the viv cover- not all the way out to the edges, but enough to keep humidity in.

I use sphagnum moss in the moist hides. I tried paper towels when I ran out of moss, and they didn't like it. I put the moist hide in as soon as I see the snake go blue. Choco keeps his all the time because he loves it, I take out the others' when they are done shedding, like a day later.

And open it up when I remove it to try to prevent mold, and check for mold before putting it back in next time.

And don't get the Flukers All Natural Moss, it has a ton of green food coloring in it that comes out when it gets wet.

Depends on your feeding intervals. You should notice when your snake goes into "Blue" phase, his eyes will get cloudy and his underside will change colors.

I would put the hide in there when he is in that stage. Misting the cage daily when he is in blue wouldn't hurt either.

Its really wierd how why sheds do that, my humidity hovers at around 30% and my snake has never had a bad shed. I guess it just happens :rolleyes:
 
I'm not going to lie, my set-ups for my snakes are a bit ghetto. They're in Sterilite tubs with a heating pad on one end and a long hide running the length of the tub. When my snakes go into blue I nudge the water dish a bit closer to the heat source and my humidity rises gradually enough for me to control it without difficulty. I've always had complete sheds. Obviously the other suggestions will work great, but I like my simplistic solution. :cheers: Good luck!

Young snakes shed an average of once a month. When they get older, the time between sheds lengthens to every 3 months or so.

Remember, these are just averages. Don't try to set your clock by them. ;)
 
I'm taking care of a hypo het lav for Joejr14, and it shed perfectly three times for me, but the one from a few days ago was very bad. I can't think of anything that might have changed in her environment, but it happened anyway. I have others near her in the rack that shed around the same time without incident. 24 hours in a tub full of wet paper towels fixed her up though.
 
Same temp as the viv. I'd go about 80F. I have a meat thermometer that I measure the pinky water with, and that works for the soaking water, too. Or a candy thermometer. Or I guess a people thermometer!

It took a couple times to get Zee's bad shed off.

I wonder if it's the time of year- less ambient humidity that's causing this to happen everywhere.
