Repti Heat Cables are for sale in the pet shop near me..they dont sound safe. i think of a HOT WIRE in your snakes tank to clime on. whats it do and is it safe? the only thing i know about it is its allot of money! :eek1:

it's not intended to be used inside the tank, but rather outside like a UTH.

I have a rack that uses heat rope rather than flexwatt or UTHs, it fits in a channel along the back of every shelf and winds thru all 6 shelves.

It's also regulated to stay at about 84 degrees so even if it was inside the vivarium, it wouldn't really hurt them.

cool so its just like a hot rope. does it work with glass tanks? i wonder if it will work with my tanks. at my pet shop its alot of money i remember it was around 20 dollers. i didnt see how many feet it was though.

Nah, they're not very expensive at all. Try eBay. Heat cable was originally designed to be wrapped around water pipes to keep them from freezing. They are very flexible, which makes them versatile. At one time, I had a heat cable wrapping around two 10-gallons and three Sterilite containers, and it worked great. I've also used one (with a rheostat) duct-taped to the inside of a 50-gallon into which I stacked eight Sterilite shoeboxes with babies in them. Got me through last winter with all babies healthy and fat.

They can be used inside a viv, but only if attached to a rheostat to keep the temp of the cable itself from exceeding 85 - 90 degrees. It is sometimes used that way, wrapped around branches, but more for arboreal species rather than corns.

Actually ZooMed says it's ok to use inside cages and that it is water resistant. That being said, I wouldn't use it inside the cage just for the risk involved.

yeah i didnt know i wonder if i should use that if i could somehow stick it to the bottem of peek a boos tank then thread it down to the other tank below it...

Duct tape works well to hold it to the tanks. If you're going to use it on multiple tanks, try to get about the same amount of cable on each so they are receiving the same amount of heat. You can adjust your rheostat/thermostat to bring it into the correct range.
