What is this? A kink?

So I hatched a clutch of all amel motleys last year. And this guy was the male of the pair I kept back because they were the firsts to eat! Well I didn't notice at the time, or for quite a while actually. But this guy has a little hook or bend in the very tip of his tail. It looks like it's the last scale on his tail. The female of the pair doesn't have the "hook" but her last scale is not like any I've seen on my other 09's.

So here are some pics of the male's tail. Any opinions or thoughts are welcome!

Do you feed in a separate container? That's what I would expect from getting stuck in a deli lid. But if the female is funky too...my theory doesn't work. :shrugs:

I think it is an incidental anomaly, not entirely outside the bell curve of normal. IMHO.

I have seen other...appendages and extremities...in the animal kingdom uncharacteristically curved, but retaining their natural function.

The female's last scale is just elongated, and slightly curved. But not hooked. I'll try to get a picture.

:puke02: Like the tail on a chow...right?
Yeah...

And we've all heard of hammer toe...

Here's the female. It's not that out of the ordinary. Just interesting.

Hmm...weird! It's like a little stinger. Anaconda 3 style.

That makes me think it may be genetic. Do you still have the parents?

Yeah, I got them from Drizzt80. I don't remember any of the other babies though. Hmm, I'll go look at their tails!

I thought about it. But this pair produced for the first time for me. And these snakes he acquired as babies, so as far as I know, he didn't produce them. No biggy.

You should get to name the phenomenon, since you discovered it. I vote for Scorpion Tail.

If I was buying those snakes, I would want to know about Scorpion Tail ahead of time. I wouldn't want it to be a surprise.

Have you read in the Morph Guide about short tail? I wonder if it's something like that...You might run it by Chuck...

Nanci, I had heard of "small (other thing)",...but not "short tail".

I hope it's not just a boy snake thing, and all the other boy snakes don't taunt him in the locker room.
