Im new to this and wanted to ask others opinions. The pre-owner said he was a "brown corn snake"...??????

Yes first snake. I was confused because the pre-owner said "brown corn snake", I was just assuming he was a normal/classic.
 
Most corns ARE really sweet. Even most "hatelings" (hatchlings that strike and rattle and bite) turn out to be docile and sweet.
I have one, Syko, that was a HORRIBLE baby. He would strike and smash his head against the side of his cage, trying to get me, if I so much as walked by! He's a super sweet boy now, really tame.
