I use UTHs by a company called Habistat, Habistat is one of the biggest reptile heating brands over here. I use Habistat thermostats, too. I can't think of a thing wrong to say about these heat mats, they suit my (and the snakes') needs perfectly.

Almost all of my racks and display units have Flexwatt that I wired attached to dimmer switches that I also wired myself. It's remarkably easy, is a lot more stable that I expected it to be and the cheapest option I found.

Cheers!

Heating

I have two bedrooms in my house that are being used as snake rooms. Both are 13' x 13.5'. I have an oil filled, radiator looking, elec. heater in each room, and each heater is controlled by a Helix Control. No problems whatsoever. I have the vents in the rooms open slightly for A/C to enter. Everything is setup so the rooms remain at 80 - 83 degrees at all times.

I'm one of the many Zoomed UTH people. But whoever chose the heat rock should probably stop seeing as they're dangerous for the snakes, just my opinion.

ARS flexwatt heat panels with refectix tape on my ARS rack run by a Johnson thermostat.Exo Terra UTH on a couple 10 and 20 gal tanks.

I chose no heat... My snake room / saltwater tank room / poison dart frog room generally stays 80+ during the day (right now it is 83) and drops to maybe 76 as a low at night.

ok, now I'm confused!

I chose 3 different options

1. a different form of heating: during Spring, Summer & Autumn (daytime hours), I used the heat of the room to warm my cages (building-regulated; very warm- must have window open). At night, A/C cools apartment to an adequate range.

2. UTH, Zoo Med: during Winter (daytime hours) because heat is off or very low while I'm @work. At night, apartment cools to an adequate range. During Summer (nighttime hours) when AC is on.

All day if I feed my snakes to help with digestion until they eliminate. :eatpointe

3. Heat light bulb or emitters, Hagen/Exo Terra: during Summer (daytime hours) when AC is on and I notice snakes STAYING on the warm side from previous night. I use a 25-Watt RED bulb, and shine it on the rock cave hide for 2 hours to warm it up.

My System may sound confusing at 1st glance, but it's actually seasonal. Each season, I set-up my temps on a timer. Then I'm good for months.

When I only used an UTH, I had broken sheds because my apartment was just too warm. I had to mist the cage; get a moist hide; drape plastic-wrap to retain humidity...
NOW THAT WAS CONFUSING! :crazy02:

OK, OK... I'll shut up. :sidestep:

We use UTH on some, Ceramic/ basking spots or combinations of them.
But recently I have been looking at the heaters we use in work, in the flux storage stores. They are tube heaters, 240 volts and quite cheap. They come in lengths from 2ft- 6ft, and they get really hot. Next I am taking a pulse stat to work to wire into one of them and I'll monitor the temp control using a laser/infrared thermometer. If they work the way I hope, I think they will probably be the way forward.. I'll let you know how this works out..
