What's your favorite breed of dog?

Hard to say... my next dog will be a Dogo Argentino, but I like lots of breeds.

Dean's sister has two of these...I've only seen pictures, but they are gorgeous dogs!

Mike and Brent, your dogs are just stunning. They are so fit and healthy looking.

Thanks Lori. He's a gorgeous dog and soft, really soft, almost fleece-like soft. The tough thing is with our cold winters and snow that's (still) on the ground, I haven't had the chance to really take Cooper out and get him (or me) in the shape he should be in!

My top Favorite dogs would be...

Vizsla, French Bulldog, Great Dane & Doberman Pincher

German Shorthairs of course

and I grew up with collies, so will always love them. I have had other breeds over the years, including German shepherds, Pekinese, and yorkies. But there is just something about German shepherds that always draws me back to them. I just like everything about them. If I ever get another dog again, I want one just like Ciana.
This post made my day (and Ciana's, too, of course) :D!!!

There is definitely something about German Shepherds, though, that just have everything in a dog that I love. If anyone's familiar with the movie "Radio Flyer"... the dog in that movie, Shane I believe, is exactly what a German Shepherd means to me, and has meant to me since childhood. A dog that is absolutely there for you 100%. Always there to protect, but also to play and goof around with. And the intelligence that lets you relate to them on a level so much deeper than just being a "pet".
I've always had German Shepherds growing up, and they've been the most loyal members of my family. My mother has photos of us with a white GSD, that we had when we were babies, and he would just lay by our sides all the time. He was gentle, yet strong, and would certainly protect us if need be. All the way through to Sweet Pea, she was with us from our toddler years, all the way until our late teenage years, who followed us EVERYWHERE, and was as sweet as could be, whole still being an absolutely perfect protector. To Nikita, who is my mother's dog, but very similar to Sweet Pea. And now, Ciana, who is everything and more to me.

By the way, everyone has some beautiful dogs. Some of the breeds that have been posted that I really like... Irish Wolfhounds. Newfoundland. Great Dane... I suppose mostly the giant dogs :)! The Boerbol's are amazing dogs, but man, that is just WAY too much dog for me, lol.

The wolf-dogs are my favorite. Used to own one named Skip, but he died after being hit by a car.

Looked a bit like this (don't own the picture in any way):
wolf-not-free1.jpg

Except his eyes were multi-colored, with one still blue and the other brown. His fur was smoother, too, and a tad bit darker. Very beautiful dog, and my dream dog.

Mine is by far a German Shepherd.
My mom owned one for 15 yrs. We had to put her to sleep b/c she was so old (17 yrs. old, we got her when she was 2 yrs.from a shelter), and she just would not die. So she was put to sleep in our home.

My Grandparents had one they aslo got from the shelter ate the age of 1 1/2 yrs. She was my best friend. She followed me EVERYWHERE. Sofie was diagnosed with hip display and nothing good be done to help her. She lived with it for about a year. SHe got to the put where she would yelp when trying to stand up after laying down. At the age of 5 she was put to sleep. Here is Sofie-

While I still love german shepherds, I hate what is to commonly wrong with them, Hip Displaysia.

I like the gaze hounds, too. Greyhounds, whippets, IG's. I had an IG...sweet dog. I had friends with an adopted greyhound...totally like a person living in the house with them. She did not like people much, but she loved me.

I also have a soft-spot for hunting dogs. I have had a Brittany Spaniel, and always wanted a Springer Spaniel, English or Welsh.

I like the pics of the Vizslas and the German Shorthaired, too.

I love dogs.

Patterdale terrier

My favorite little dog is the Patterdale terrier, native to the U.K. This is a pic of me holding Buddy (the black terrier) at the IWPA national weight pull championships in 2003. He won gold in the 20 lb weight class at a weight of 19 pounds. Although a bit large for a Patterdale, he is also a good earth dog.

The first dog I ever had was a Shetland sheepdog named Lucky. She'll always be my favorite. Shelties are very vocal, as I'm sure is true of any herding dog, but they're incredibly loyal and affectionate. They're definitely my favorite breed. I wish I had a picture but any that might still be floating around would be 2000 miles away. This was the closest I could find to one that looked like her, only she didn't have as much brown on her body:

My brother's ex had an albino boxer named Simon and he was definitely my next favorite. If dogs like that (or dogs in general, I suppose) weren't so high maintenance I would love to get one of my own. I think I have some pictures on my (currently out of commission) desktop so I'll post a couple when I get it running again but he looked pretty similar to this:
