White Cliffs walk

Mice! They taste so nice!
Yesterday Steve and I went for a hike along the cliffs at Dover, first calling in at St Margarets to see the pretty little houses overlooking the sea where Ian Fleming and Noel Coward both lived.

Then we travelled to Dover, to the starting point overlooking the ferry terminal with Dover Castle further along the cliffs. It was a bright clear day, sunny but cold

The views from the top of the cliffs were spectacular, because the day was so clear you could make out the French coast in the distance

The route took us through woodlands and out onto scrubland kept open by native ponies (Exmoors) grazing there. Of course I had to make friends with these very heavily pregnant mares, and my approach was rewarded by a grooming session, getting my head whiffled gently while I scratched their necks

Back along the cliff tops to our starting point, then home for a curry. I loved seeing the windmills dotted along the area. A great day out!

Thanks for the pics Janine! I will never forget how spectacular the white cliffs are. It was an amazing sight the first time I saw them on the ferry traveling from Belgium to the UK.

I'd not been there for 20 years, so it was lovely to visit for the day. I'll have to go back in the summer and visit the castle itself, and I'll be sure to share that on here too.
The wild ponies were the highlight for me, naturally. I managed to get them to come right up by inviting them over like Cathy taught me, Parelli style and it worked straight away. I expect they are used to tidbits from walkers there, but they were both whiffling my hair and jacket carefully while I scratched their necks gently in a 3-way grooming session.

I really want to go to Europe and do a tour of a bunch of different castles (I looooove castles!) someday.

Make sure to see Warrick. One of if not thee best intact example.

I have a book with all sorts of castles (pictures and history) not only in Europe but in other places too, I am making a list of all the places I want to go, and that is definitely on the list :)

I meant Warwick. I lost my edit. Need to pay again. :)

I went to many castles in the UK and mainland Europe. Warwick was the most impressive to me.
I'll take a trip to Rochester castle this week, it's right on my doorstep, not in the same league as Warwick but I think you'll like it

Many rivers to cross
But I can't seem to find
My way over
Wandering I am lost
As I travel along
The white Cliffs of Dover...

Sorry I had to do it! "Many rivers to cross" is one of my favorite reggae songs and I always wondered what the white cliffs of Dover looked like! Not quite what I pictured in my head but they are very pretty just the same. I hope I can afford to visit them myself some day.
