Is the pied gene/mutation (whatever it is) ONLY compatible with diffused/bloodred animals?
The answer to this is still up in the air I believe, but Don S. thinks the odds are his pied sided gene is only compatable with the blood gene. I do believe that Joe P. has some normal hets this year that will be test bread though in a couple years. As of right now I don't know of anyone that has a pied sided "normal".
And if so would it then be considered a pattern or colour mutation or BOTH?
I would have to go with both. One, being only in bloods thus far the patter is obviously affected, but in the pied sided it seems like an extreme form of diffusion on the sides. And since they lack color along the sides I think they would fit into the color mutation as well.
Has anyone got examples of the pied mutation in different morphs OTHER than normal bloodreds? And an example of an older animal with this trait?
I think Rob Stevens of Bayou Reptiles has a pied sided granite that is of breeding age.
Also Michelle of "Creatures of the Night" has white sided granites and pewters although I was told that the gene in her stock is not compatable with Don S. pied sided gene.
