who says pitbulls are bad dogs

Here's a few shots of my poodle Jax beating up on his cousin Obie. Obie is a sweet dog and pretty much loves every dog. Puts up with a lot. He's a mystery mutt, but I'm sure there's some pit in the mix..

Ooooo I LOOOOVE pits!
Sad story,
My ex and I, a couple yrs ago, bought a BEAUTIFUL, pure white male pitbull.
Named him Kilo.
He is my SON. I love him to death. Will NEVER have another like him! EVER!
He was a wonderful babysitter, great cuddler, amazing protecter! (and the only one that would play pool with me!)
He didn't have a mean bone in his body, except when our house got broken into... Kilo got a little crazy....
Anyway. When my ex and I split up, he threatened me with my life if I were to take Kilo.
So I had no choice but to leave my baby boy behind.
Within 6 months of that, Kilo had 2 missing teeth, 3 "assault charges", a lump along his spine, and whenever someone said his name he rolled over and peed his "Pants".
Not to mention the 2 llamas that he killed. Along with numerous other dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens, you name it. If it was moving, his "Daddy" sicked him on it.
Needless to say Animal Control was looking for him to have him put down.
I know my little Kilo boy. He is NOT that dog. I saw him in the backyard a month or so ago, so I took him. And he was PERFECT! We went for a walk, cuddled, played at the park, went on the slides, played with other dogs at the dog park... everything. He was perfect.
Then Troy (his "loving owner") tracked us down, and took him back. We traded threats and what not...
I miss my baby. I NEED him back. But I can't have him where I live. I have no time for him. He is only good with me, he is scared of everyone else. And I couldn't stand to see him put down.....
It breaks my heart.
But anyway... thats my story...
That's too bad, sounds like the guy was a piece of $&^* and ruined the dogs life. Seems like naming a pure white Pit Bull Kilo sounds like the intent was to have a tough aggressive dog in the first place, just like people putting large chains on them or cropping their ears.
I think this is where the misconceptions of Pit Bulls are born, not because of their nature, but because people like that find them tough, and abuse them into that behavior. Sad sad story, but all too common.

My Best fried has one that is mixed w/ assie. He is mean. The ppl they got him from had like a bunch of pits and they fought them. He chases the other dogs around him and tries to fight.

I do believe it is the owners fault. But you can't say they are "good" dogs even if they are, b/c ppl that don't know how to deal w/ them, will get one and that is why they are considered "bad" dogs. They have to ban them in places even if it isn't the dogs fault, the olny way to keep them from hurting anything (b/c of the owners) is to not give the owners a chance to ruin a dog.

I agree to have them ban from some places. I think ppl should have to go to training or somthing b/f they get a pit. It is not fair for the dogs to have such a bad name, no, but we have to so that we can protect the comunnity.

They are wonderful dogs, but can not be enjoyed. I hate that. I feel sorry for the dog, pit, for In most shelters they automatically put them to sleep. And so many ppl fight them and then breed making more in the nature of fighting. It is just plain out SAD.

Banning won't change a thing, and it's not only the breeders fault. If your friend knew the breeders fought the dogs, why would they buy a dog from them.
Pit Bulls aren't prone to any behavior, they are a strong breed with a strong will. It doesn't predispose them to aggression, it just means the owners need to take extra steps training the dogs, and not buying from people who fight them.

Yeh, I think he had that intention all along, but I was too blind to see it.
It's clearly not your fault, there are plenty of men just like that, and you just got caught up. Not that naming a dog Kilo makes it a bad dog, but to me it shows that the owner only wanted the dog as a symbol of power. But to me, people like that are the weakest people on earth. It takes a much stronger person to be able to control a dog with positive reinforcement, rather than encouraging the aggressive tendencies that all breeds can possess with poor training.

I couldn't agree more. I definately learned alot in that situation!
He is very weak. He feeds off of the people around him. Literally. He lives in other ppls houses, burrows their money with no intent to pay back, hurts ppl just to get a kick.
He is the type that will walk downtown and hit the first guy he makes eyecontact with.
When I was 15 yrs old, he was downright SEXY!
Now, after paying his rent, buying his groceries, and cleaning his messes, I know better!

Awe! Yeh he's definately got a lot of pitty in him!

He's a funny dog. NEVER barks. He growls sometimes when him and Jaxs' play gets rough, but it's like a funny groan, and it's very rare. He also has never been aggressive to anyone, dog or person. Jax is dominant over him, but I think he's much older, that may change as Obie grows up.

That's really great, both are awesome looking dogs, but Obie looks great. That's great he's so well tempered too, he looks like he can take all of the harassment from Jax.
It's funny Jax has the power too, with dogs it's not really about size, but more attitude. I bet Jax will always be leader, usually that position stays.

What makes pits bad.. is they get in the wrong hands. They are very HUMAN Pleasing. They fight because that is what Humans praised them to do at one point. And people Breed MEAN Dogs to get MEAN Dogs. But any breed can be mean.. In the wrong hands. But Pits seem to take there "Jobs" too seriously. Lol My rescue works really hard to try to get out ambassadors of the breed. And people all over florida know us, and the Director. If we had more people like her out there with the right mind set having pit rescues.. there wouldn't be so much bad in the name. Years ago.. it was the Doberman that had a bad rap.. now it is the Pit. :-/

Lol.
I drive a customer shuttle for 6 car dealerships, and I try to converse with every customer I drive around.
I always used to talk about my old pit, because everyone has an opinion and I am willing to hear it.
This one lady told me a story about this GIGANTIC pitbull, that lives down the street from her. "He must be 200 pounds!!" She said.
Apparently, this "pitbull" always gets out and she is terrified every time she comes out of her house, because it is vicious and tried to attack her! (Understandable, right?)
But she said that the only reason it tried to hurt her is because it's a pitbull and they are like blood thirsty or something! And they only want to kill people because they are pits!
So.. I drive her to her house and she wanted to show me this pitbull.
She happened to live on the same street as a good friend of mine, and I was wondering why he had never told me about this crazy pitbull?
As we are driving she points at my friends house, and shows me his dog, the "killer pitbull" that always tries to kill her....
Well... Capone, my friends Adam's dog, is not even a pitbull. He is a rottweiler! He is from the same litter as my rottie Khaos! Probably the calmest, friendliest dog in the world!

I thought it was kinda funny, that she was terrified of this pitbull, because it was a pitbull, and it was a freakin ROTTIE!!!!!

She was so cute.... LOL!

Pit Bulls don't seem to be known for being human aggression as they really like to please their owners. But does that mean you have had ones that were dog aggressive? I couldn't help but notice the Pit Bulls on your site had cropped ears, and large chains, not the examples that help the breed overcome their bad rep :(.

I STOPED BREEDING THE GAME BRED DOGS BECAUSE I WAS SICK AND TIRED OF PEOPLE WANTING TO FIGHT THEM.
Did you ever report those people interested in fighting, sounds like you were involved in law enforcement. And hopefully nobody successfully bought your dogs for fighting. Not to jump to conclusions again, but people stealing your adults and puppies makes it sound like they would do so for fighting purposes, so I question why your dogs would make good fighting dogs in the first place.

no i agree, its not the animal thats bad in its self just a bad upbringing, but the owner has a huge impact on the way it acts and how it behaves, i feel that dogs reflect the owner.

Th insurance companies are the ones saying they are bad....lol. Seriously, they are in the top 5, and it is hard for those statistics to lie. Granted, I think German Shepherds are listed in the top 5 only because they are so COMMON (they seem to look at total incidents and not a pro rata occurrence in those stats), but it still shows that, statistically, they are more of a concern than others. Individual dogs may be great - I'd trust my life with some GS - but the laws and stereotypes (and insurance companies) deal with averages - and not individuals.

Look at it this way (and I have nothing against pits), if a strange dog walked into your yard and was nosing around your 18 month old baby, would you prefer it was a pit or a shetland? Want to stick with just big ones? Would you prefer a pit or a Great Pyrenees? Statistically, the pit loses...and I'm sure most pit owners even agree assuming the above involves all dogs you've never seen before. Strangers in other words. Me, I'd trust a pyrenees, in general, with any child...and you don't get many breeds bigger than those. :)

I do admit KJ, when I'm out walking the poodle and I see a stray pit walking, I want to pick him up and run. Nothings ever happened to him for all that anxiety, but I have to say it doesn't change. I'd like to say how I'd feel with another big breed of dog for comparison, but it seems when there's a dog wandering out here, it's a pit-mix..

Isn't it when things are most emotional though that we are least able to be rational? Trust me though that point resonates with me pretty well.

On the other hand, when I'm walking the poodle and I see someone walking a pit and they ask, 'Is your dog friendly?' I'm not really nervous about letting Jax smell and/or play with that dog..

Pits are Naturally GREAT Family Dogs.. and aren't known for Human Aggression. But, Also they are known to be Dog aggressive. Yes, there are some that can live with other dogs there whole life. But, there is still a chance even a Socialized puppy at 2-3 can become Dog aggressive. It is just part of the breed sadly.

And about a 18 mo old and a dog.. I wouldn't want ANY Strange dog around my kid. I have been attacked by 3 Labs.. a JRT.. A Mastiff.. American Eskimo. And the JRT Tore tendans in my hands. One lab was 6 mo old, and went at my face. So ... all those breeds you don't hear about in the news... do bite as well. So I wouldn't trust any strange dog with my 18 mo old.
