Why -you- need to own Boas

Kokopelli

Resident Boa Fanatic
I thought I'd share a progression thread of sorts over the first 4 months of these DH life- if anything is likely to get you to convert to the awesomeness that is BCI... seeing these fellas develop over the first 4 months should be it.

Usually at this "milestone" it is clear what's the potential and direction of the snake... as you are about to see, it's sometimes very surprising and you can never be sure until this point(though sometimes more surprises can occur even later)

As I may have mentioned, I had the utmost pleasure of being these the day following this litter's birth. Little did I know that out of these I will be picking 5 boas... They were born on the 19'th of May 2009, and I was there with Alon labeling and taking photos while "oooo" and "aaaah"ing all the while the following noon.

So here they are, the morning after coming to this world :)

Roughly 3 weeks or so later, they went through their first shed(they were born a bit prematurely, not uncommon with boas).
Here is how they looked after their first shed:

Personally I feel that's a huge change but... it only gets worse

Are you confused yet as to how that can be the same snake?

How about around 2 weeks later,

Sorry for double posting Lotus' pic...

anyhoo... shall we continue?

On the 11'th of June I picked my three little fellas and took photos of them the following morning... I was not -too- thrilled to be honest... they didn't strike me as amazing... but pretty nonetheless...

They look practically the same here

After that things got interesting though...

These were taken on the -14'th- of June(-2- days later!)

The potential is beginning to creep in...

A while later, after their third shed, they ended up looking like this:

And Phoenix:

Those of you who keep track know how they look now... but those who don't, consult the next post :)

And here are some recent pics taken two days ago:

Boa Constrictors aside from being incredible when handled(those who have handled a BCI know that it's a totally different experience from handling a colunrid), they are insanely interesting as every time you look at them, they change a bit of their color, growing into their full potential.

It's really fun and exciting to see how they develop- and that's why -you- need to get some yourself! You owe it to yourself, your family, friends- heck, you owe it to God!

Get with the program! :)

Wow...that is really cool! They are all so pretty....but I think Venus has the best tail!

I've always admired other peoples Boas....but I don't like the fact that they get so big. Geesh, one of these days (after one of these posts :D), I'm going to cave!

These guys actually quite a bit of Hogg Isle in them so they aren't going to get that big...
Pure Hogg Isle can get to 4-5 feet as adults... which can hardly be called big.

Love em and I have to say that in my short time here you are on of my favorite poster's love your snakes and your attitude I am not a fan of Pythons one bit but man alive Boa's get my MOJO flowing..keep up the good job..

I have to agree with the others. They all are beautiful, but Phoenix definitely is my favorite. The colors or so rich! Thanks for sharing them with us.

Very Nice Oren!
Beautiful coloring on them!

I love my Boas for sure.. but they aren't that colorful..

Thank you :)

Well... I was kinda lucky to get these but... you know, all you need is to get yourself a couple of interesting hypos(no need to go for the high end ones) and simply breed them on over a generation or two... in BCI it seems that the offspring significantly surpass their parents with every added generation
