Will a Corn Snake Fit

I have discovered that the tank that I thought was 10 gallons is actually about 7.5 gallons. Would a baby corn snake be able to live in that small of a tank for a few months?

Thanks,

Without knowing the exact dimensions I can't say with 100% accuracy, but I'd say yes. People keep hatchlings in probably smaller tubs (I've heard stories of containers as small as a shoebox). As long as you can maintain temperatures and fit the water and hides in there, babies don't take up much room at all. Most of the time they'll be hidden away anyways, at least until they're a bit older and more confident in their survival. Depending on how young the baby is, there's a possibility it wont outgrow the tank for at least more than a few months.

The length is about 1.5 times a regular shoebox, the width is the same as a shoebox, and the height is about double a shoebox. Sorry, couldn't find a measuring tape. Do you have any guesses on how long a baby corn would fit in this tank.

How long is hard to say, since every snake grows differently. Probably a good while though. The best general rule to follow would be...
Length of container + Width of container = Length of snake
or
Length of container = 2/3 Length of snake

Approximations work, and those are for minimum sizes, so all I could really say is your container would work until the snake outgrew those sizes. Which could be quite a while, or a few months. Again, all snakes grow differently. If I was to give a rough estimate based on the approximate dimensions and average growth rates it could probably easily last till about 6-8 months. Don't take that as a certainty though, just an estimated guess.

Just answering your original question, yes. Most of us keep babies in shoeboxes with about the surface area for their first 9 months/year. Then on to (roughly) 15 quart size for the next several months or year, then into adult racks.

My hatchlings are in Kritter Keepers, which are a little taller than shoe boxes...there's more than enough room currently.

Thanks everyone. I am going to get some supplies and hopefully get my first snake next month.

congrats corn snakes are a great snake to start with!
I totally fell in love with mine!

and btw; I too kept my little guy in shoebox! (well, a plastic R.U.B with locking handles.)
and he was fine for 4 months before I put him in his tank. Just so you know, ;)
