WIR rota

Honestly, I would like to see some new faces doing the WIR. I do agree that it seems like only select people are "allowed" to do it. I personally volunteered myself MONTHS before I actually got a chance to step in and do one. I have to wonder.... was I only 'allowed' to do the WIR out of necessity?

It's Elle's baby, true, but now it's left the nest, and the idea belongs to the forum as a whole. Anyone who wants a chance to do a WIR should be given a week. We can just make a list of dates and people can sign up. Anyone who is confused should just refer to the list.

I see where you're coming from, Jenni. Still, I'd like to see some better structure and organization built around the thing before the concept "grows". I don't think it's "left the nest" yet. I'd like to see the "alternates list" turn into something that will accommodate what you're looking for. We've already seen many, many instances where the "official" compilers have had to bow out of their scheduled WIRs. I think there will be plenty of opportunities for those who want to do one to do so.

And I just wanted to add that even though Rich provided a forum for it, and he added the regular mod team to its list of mods, the WIR forum is not really administered by Rich or the regular mod team. This thing is Elle's and Brent's baby as far as I'm concerned. If they don't like the idea of coordinating dozens of people just because they signed up, it's their call. If they decided not to coordinate the effort, then the WIR forum would be eliminated, because I'll tell you right now, I can guarantee that neither Rich nor I nor the other mods would have the least interest in adding this monster to our responsibilities...

Since when did my baby turn into a monster... is it one of those "face only a monther could love" type thingies LOL

Actually, I think it kinda has, in all honesty.

Elle said it herself. If you'd like to do a WIR, and don't feel you've been given a chance, do it in general chit chat. I look forward to seeing the "underground WIRs" from other people's viewpoints.

The majority of people who read the WIR don't have the slightest interest in contributing, they just appreciate the information within it as the purpose of the WIR is to condense the week at cornsnakes.com for those who do not have the time to freely browse as often as they want. Therefore assuming that it should be a free for all defeats the purpose. Do you want to see 5 threads a week containing the same content?

It's not about bias or being selfish or not "allowing" others to contribute, it's simply an idea that has now been expanded slowly over time. It's going to take more time to expand, develop and change. But I think it works well for the time being, we do need to work on organization and timekeeping which is a big enough task for now.

I like Dean's suggestion. I think we should go with that.
DONE . . . the following is posted in a sticky for the WIR forum. http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?p=627407#post627407 Any tweaks, questions or problems, let me know.

Week in Review (aka WIR) threads are done on a voluntary basis. The purpose of the WIR is to give a synopsis of the previous week in the hopes all visitors, but especially infrequent visitors, will be able to “catch up” on the week’s happenings at CS.com! It is not required, but it is recommended, the WIR thread contain pictures, new members list, birthday lists and interesting threads of discussion from the previous week. Individual authors may include additional material as they see fit.

*Week in Review threads will cover Sunday through Saturday of the previous week.
*Week in Review threads will be posted preferably the Monday of the following week. (Could be posted Sunday through early Tuesday.)
*Regular contributors will be responsible for creating and posting their WIR thread each week.
*If a regular contributor finds themself unable to create a thread for their assigned week, they are responsible for contacting an alternate from the list below.
*If a regular contributor fails to post, or contact an alternate, for their week more than twice, they will be moved to the alternate list and the top listed alternate will be moved into a regular position.
*I reserve the right to alter the order of contributors on occasion to change things up a bit. :)
*As with anything voluntary, if you don’t like it, you don’t have to do it . . . or read it!! :)

Drizzt80/Brent is currently responsible for keeping track of the schedule as follows: (If you have any questions/concerns/schedule requests, PM me.)

Sunday, May 4th through Saturday, May 10th, to be posted 5/12 Toyah
Sunday, May 11th through Saturday, May 17th, to be posted 5/19 Stephanie
Sunday, May 18th through Saturday, May 24th, to be posted 5/26 Rich
Sunday, May 25th through Saturday, May 31st, to be posted 6/2 Jenni (alternate for Elle)
Sunday, June 1st through Saturday, June 7th, to be posted 6/9 Toyah
Sunday, June 8th through Saturday, June 14th, to be posted 6/16 Stephanie
Sunday, June 15th through Saturday, June 21st, to be posted 6/23 Rich
Sunday, June 22nd through Saturday, June 28th, to be posted 6/30 Elle
Sunday, June 29th through Saturday, July 5th, to be posted 7/7 Toyah

Current Alternates:
Jrgh17 – Jenni
NFS07 - Nicole

Any questions?! No? Good! :D

I think its a very fair system Brent. I also think that if we get special requests from people to take a turn they can be added to the alternate list by PM'ing you. But no more than 5 alternates at a time.

I also added in my option to insert contributors on occasion to spicen things up . . .

I have an idea ... sorry if it's already been decided, but I guess I am just feeling guilty as I know other people want to help out too, especially reading Jenni's post above.

Could it be possible to make it a five week rota? The four regular writers and then the top alternate for the last week. Just if we use an alternate, say, once every second month with a list of five alternates then they will only get a shot once a year! It just seems a very long time to have to wait for your chance to volunteer to contribute to this community project here ...

I by no means have the time to do what you guys do but I must commend you on your effort. I enjoy reading the WIR and am glad you people put it out. I also agree with the above statements of a timely posting manner makes it very nice to keep up with.

Keep up the good work!

I think the system put in place is fine, we need to work on punctuality and improve the WIR BEFORE expanding it even more. If this system works with the alternates then perhaps we can think about adding more "permenant" writers to the list.

I know a few people want to contribute but to be honest it's only a mere handful.

I for one am willing to give up every second WIR of mine to an alternate. If you want more people involved then perhaps do somthing similar?

I agree completely and would gladly do that as the schedule of who's writing can be flexible. BUT, I also agree with Elle. Let's get the WIR back on the track, pointed in the right direction, and up to a higher level of quality. :) Fair enough?!

Yes, I'd saw that would be possible and more fair on the rest of the guys. But at the same time I'd realised that would be "messier" and more complicated than having other writers built into the schedule, when the aim seemed to be to make it less complicated. That was why I suggested it.

Thinking about this, can you add that if a contributor is regularly tardy with their WIR, they'll be bumped? I'm just thinking that lateness of posting seems to be the main bug-bear people have, so it might be worth addressing in your rules :)

Good idea. I'll look at how to word it and include it. Great start to the WIR with the "new and improved" guidelines! Thanks Toyah!
