hey

Mental Menace....just because your tarantula is a male does NOT mean he will die in one year. In fact most males live until they are 2, 3 or even four. Its not really the age that you can go by. Its the adult molt.

When a male has his last molt, he can live for another few months, or even another year hanging on. And unless something else is wrong it will be longer than a year. I have had both male and female tarantulas of different species and my male pink toe easily made it past three.

Here is a good caresheet on your species if you haven't seen it already...your Curly Hair has a bite that shouldn't affect anyone worse than any other tarantula. But yes since you are young is could affect you but like I said if you have no problem with Bee stings this tarantula is normally harmless. A rash can occur as some people are more allergic and sensitive to the hairs they "throw" while others seems to be unaffected.

I love spiders too!

Here is a picture of one of my tarantulas, A Brazilain Pink Birdeater. Right now he is only about 3-4 inches but hopefully within the next 18 months he will be 9-11 inches! I can't wait. This guy is a male like yours, and also almost a year old. He will most certainly live past one year as he won't even get to his adult size until 2 years old! If you take care, your guy will live quite a bit longer than a year as well.

Male

I have 6 cornsnake (just add 2 new snake to my collection, yesterday, 1 snow and 1 more amel), 1 african house snake, 1 Red-eared slider(turtle) and a cat.

Male

1 normal, 1 amel, 1 blizzard

a sinaloan milk, a butler's garter

2 leos

an absolute ton of mice (they love me, they all run toward the side of the glass facing me when I come into the room begging for treats, and when my hand goes in to clean bottles and food dishes it usually brings 3-4 mice out with it:D ).

2 extremely smart and friendly rats

and one hella big wolf spider that lives in the corner of the ceiling in the basement. I don't really consider him a pet, but more like a resident of the house since he's been there so long. He eats all the nasty centipedes, so I kinda like him (I hate centipedes, those long legged ones that move super fast, they're HOOOOGGE here in michigan, up to 4 inches long). He also stays away from upstairs, I think he's scared of my leos (they love to eat house spiders, I don't like it when they eat em, but I can't help it, the stupid spiders keep going into their cage).

But my cousin Kat beats me hands down. Her friend had an acciendent with her two corns and she ended up with 14 hatchlings and Kat took them all under her care. Plus she's already had a few corns to begin with, 17 snakes in total.
