I had another joyous day at the pet store.. hehe. I was down to feeding the Amazon Tree Boa but I wanted him to have a soak with Shed Ease so he could get his awful skin looking pretty again. Well I grabbed my gloves again and reached in for him....He struck at me and ended up out of his cage on the floor trying to slither away. I had some tongs so I grabbed him and quickly put him in his bath to soak..(but not without constant flailing and getting out of the container)

It was actually quite a battle to get him in to soak. All he wanted to do was bite the living heck out of me.(He didn't succeed..lol)You know what I realized though? His freakin' cage is WAY too small for him! He has to at LEAST be up to 3-4 feet by now. I don't know what size his viv his but I am sure he is pretty unhappy in there.

I wish that someone would actually buy him. They would need to take his price down though. He looks so horrible. I'm surprised he's even alive. I'd take him myself but I hate nasty snakes.. I am also not sure who would even pay 89.99 for such a snake in horrible condition.

My first agenda is getting his skin to look pretty, than to convince my manager he NEEDS a bigger cage. He just sits on the floor all mopey.

Forgive me if this doesn't make a whole lotta sense. I haven't been sleeping at all.

Awwwww. I wish I had money and space to burn... If I did, I'd come and snatch him up!! Nippy snakes aren't my thing, either, though... Even Hansel, Hopper Muncher, scares me when he gets pissy. =/ Good luck getting his health and housing in order, and I hope someone with the proper experience buys him soon.

Once you've got the caging problems out of the way, maybe you could discuss lowering the price with your manager?

I dont have any experiance with these guys... so best of luck..

just wondering does he have a branch up high in his enclosure that he can sit on? As a tree boa, I dont know that they enjoy having to sit on the floor? Maybe you can give him a branch to sit up high on, until you can get him into a bigger space?

Just a thought.. Like I said I dont really know.

Kudos to you to take it upon yourself to help him.

My ATBs occasionally have shedding issues, even here in Florida. I find that they are less stressed when I soak them overnight in a plastic box filled with at least an inch, maybe more, of substrate such as sphagnum, or cypress or something similar if you can't get the moss. Then fill with enough water to allow about a half to full inch of water on top of the substrate. The snake usually doesn't fight it as much when it can feel the substrate underneath, but after several hours the old skin is usually falling off. You can usually remove the rest by hand, or put it back into the container for several more hours if needed.
