Okay, hello all. I'm looking into getting my first ever snake soon and have fallen in love with the corns in my local pet shop.

I think I've spent my free Saturdays for the past 3/4 months in the snake section of that place getting to quiz the people who work there (all have their own snakes at home, which is handy!)

I've given myself until after christmas (all my money is currently going on presents :S) before committing to a corn so that gives me some time to do even more research etc and I'm afraid I may become a bit of a lurker on the info sections.... sorry :(

Anyway, name's Hayley, I live in S. East England with just me & my cat, Mercy. Starting next February I'm starting an OU degree course in English Literature.... which is great for me!

Welcome Hayley! It is great that you are doing research before buying. There are a few people here from the UK, so they should be a help with the local questions. I think some of them are breeders too, so you might check out what they have for sale as well.

Hayley, I'm right on your doorstep! Welcome to the site. I've got some of this year's babies left still if you'd be interested?

Hi Hayley and welcome to the site!!!

While getting a corn from a pet shop seems like a wonderful idea (and I know you said you had fallen in love with some of them), getting one from a breeder is even better. Breeders can tell you everything about their babies, when they last ate and shed, what genetic traits they may carry, which ones are skittish and which ones are calm, etc. They can even show you your new babies parents so you can see how your new baby might look all grown up!
Not to mention Diamondlil is a really nice person who puts her animals first.

So, before you get your new baby, just think about checking out Lil's kids! :)

Thanks guys/gals for the welcome!!

Pugsley: I've seen them in my lurking, it's brilliant!! Thank you :D

diamondlil - that sounds brill but I won't be able to get one, money/time wise, until Jan/Feb at the earliest though :( This is so annoying! I really want one but at the moment my pay rise doesn't happen til December and I'm off to Germany & Scotland in that month. I will see what I can wrangle but don't have anyone who'd be willing to take care of a snake whilst I'm away, especially at short notice (few months to wear them down, maybe ;) )

starsevol: Breeders will always be better due to their knowledge and info given - I accept the ones in the pet shop that I've fallen in love with will be gone by the time I am looking to get one anyway :(

Welcome Hayley :) I know exactly what it feels like to fall in love with a petshop snake lol, I got my first corn stewie from my local petshop. It would be better to buy from a breeder tho if you have the option for the reasons mentioned above. Whatever you decide to do you will be able to find all the info you need on this site. Oh post some pics when you get your little one :)

I've got some holdbacks that won't be going off for sale any time soon, so I might have something you'd like when you're ready. Any idea what morphs you like best?

Thanks for the info & tips everyone :D I'll definitely be even more ready when the time comes for me to finally get into the world of snake ownership ;)
