This year I received one hatchling from two full clutches of eggs from my female amel stripe. That one snake eneded up being pretty severely kinked and had a deformed head. It's eyes were very small, and when it stuck out its tonge it came out as a loop. It was very strange. I may post some pictures tomorrow.
In any case, i put it down, as it was clear that this snake was not going to do very well. Afterwards, my mom had the idea to get the little guy x-rayed to see what the kinks looked like. The veterinarians thought it was incredably interesting and tried over and over to get a good x-ray. Everyone looked unfocused. The conclusion was that the snakes bones were not fully calcified, meaning x-rays could not detect their outlines as well as they would a normal bone. Apparently, although I have not looked this closely at the x-rays yet, the spine is broken at all of the kinks, and actually overlaps itself at some of them.
I'd never heard of an xray of a kink, and thought this result was pretty interesting. It is not what I expected at all. Any ideas about how this kind of snake would form? Has anyone tried or seen anything like this x-ray?
